Google unveils their new St. John’s Terminal headquarters in Hudson Square! Trinity Consultants’ Cerami & Associates, Inc. and Longman Lindsey joined forces with Gensler and COOKFOX Architects for the adaptive reuse of the 90-year-old former freight terminal at 550 Washington Street. Our acoustical team reimagined the 1.3 million-square-foot office building with acoustics that supported Google’s high-performing modern workplace and diverse amenity and communal spaces.   Upon entry of the Arrival Grand Hall, hammered metal microperforated panels line the underside of the structure overhead to control the buildup of sound energy from the North and South lobbies. Acoustic design criteria for the workplace and conference spaces were centered on sound isolation, using finishes that enhance room acoustics while adhering to Google’s design standards. The dining spaces, circulation, OneMedical and the fitness center employ acoustically absorptive treatments to control noise transfer and buildup and optimize privacy. Additionally, a heavy mass acoustic curtain was installed along the window line of the Noogler multipurpose room to block exterior noise coming from the West Side Highway.   A unique feature of the project is the massive 350-seat theater, or The Bandshell as Google calls it, which features a double-height ceiling stretching from the 3rd floor through the 4th floor. The curved exterior shell protruding from the 4th floor is lined with Guastavino-inspired tiling, reminiscent of the subway tiles from the former terminal. Our acoustic goal was to isolate the sound from getting in and out of The Bandshell using room-within-a-room construction and incorporating interior glazing for the windows to keep the external noise out.   #BuiltEnvironment #Cerami #LongmanLindsey #Google #acoustics #design #architecture #workplace #office #NYC #TrinityConsultants
