For the 25th year, the MANDIs continue to showcase those working hard to create safe, healthy, vibrant neighborhoods for ALL members of our community.    From public nominations, a volunteer Selection Committee let by Dionne Grayson, MSW, CDC named fourteen finalists in May, and winners were announced Thursday, August 15, 2024 during the award show with an audience of well over five-hundred attendees.   The event was emceed by WISN's Gerron Jordan & Co-Hosted by Milwaukee's own #DJBIZZON. Last week’s Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development Innovation (MANDI), presented by our extraordinary Milwaukee team, was a wonderful opportunity to recognize community leaders and changemakers who are shaping the future of their local communities and, in turn, our nation. For 25 years, the MANDIs have honored heroes like these while also reminding us that there is still so much work to be done in the region.       LISC Milwaukee, which also celebrates 30 years of impactful work, has been a leader in supporting underserved communities, investing over $185 million in Wisconsin to empower neighborhoods. The team’s work to help activate the city’s historic King Drive and to assist small businesses like Honeybee Sage are just a few examples of the kind of economic dynamism that can grow out of these transformative partnerships.       Finally, I want to share some of the powerful statements during the MANDI awards celebration:      - “I am changing their life, and they are changing mine”   - “We are stewards of the land to benefit the community…”   - “We must create safe neighborhoods and empowered families…”   - “Culture attracts, culture retains…”   - “Legacy is being made now…”      These words underscore the vital role of CDFI’s like LISC, and the people who make them work, in catalyzing the kinds of communities everyone deserves to live in.
