What does The Mandalorian have to do with leading people?
I'm old enough to have seen the very first Star Wars in movie theaters - that was cinematic mastery at its time! The Star Wars saga has continued to be presented to audiences throughout the years with more movies. Then Disney + drew audiences in to more character development starting with The Mandalorian. We all walked away thinking "This is The Way".
But what is "The Way" when it comes to leadership?
As leaders, we often pride ourselves on our ability to guide, inspire, and achieve results. Today, I want to highlight two often underestimated yet incredibly powerful skills: problem-solving and critical thinking.
You might be thinking, "I’ve got this covered," and maybe you do to an extent. However, let’s dive deeper.
Problem-Solving: It’s not just about finding a quick fix. True problem-solving involves:
👉 Understanding the root cause: Really digging into things to identify the real issues.
👉 Exploring multiple solutions: Avoiding the trap of the first idea that comes to mind. Think about different options.
👉 Implementing effectively: Ensuring there is a plan to execute the chosen solution.
Critical Thinking - it’s more than just being logical. It’s about...
👉 Questioning assumptions: Even the ones that seem rock-solid.
👉 Analyzing data and trends: Making informed decisions based on comprehensive information.
👉 Encouraging diverse perspectives: Surround yourself with team members who challenge your thinking and bring new ideas to the table.
Imagine this: A situation arises where your team faces a major obstacle. Instead of jumping to a conclusion, you take a step back. You gather insights from various angles, critically evaluate them, and collaboratively find a solution that not only resolves the issue but also prevents future ones. That’s leadership at its finest.
So, next time you’re faced with a challenge, remember this: The true mark of a great leader isn’t just in making decisions, but in how those decisions are made.
Be great at problem-solving and critical thinking!
