☁️ Exciting developments in cloud infrastructure are on the horizon. These fundamentally industry-altering design patterns, open-source tools, and architectures are set to address the complexity and scaling challenges of Kubernetes and evolve cloud infrastructure as we know it today. Very happy to share my first-ever feature on InfoWorld today, which seeks to answer 'what's next' for K8s and cloud infrastructure. In short, we can expect a reduction of complexity in using Kubernetes, more growth in the mass enterprise market, better cross-cloud visibility with OpenTelemetry, heightened platform abstractions, inner-K8s virtualization, new modes of AI orchestration, a move toward the edge, the rise of WebAssembly and more. As an industry, we need to get out of the weeds of YAML and “climb the ladder of abstraction,” Jonas Bonér, CTO of Lightbend, says. “The next generation of serverless is that you don’t see infrastructure at all.” Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this one! This article features, in order of appearance: - James Watters, director of research and development, VMware Tanzu Labs Division at Broadcom - Thomas Graf, co-creator of Cilium, VP of cloud networking and security of Isovalent at Cisco - Sid Nag, VP Analyst at Gartner - Ellen Chisa, partner at boldstart ventures - Jonas Bonér, CTO of Lightbend, Inc. - Guillermo Rauch, CEO of Vercel - Liam Randall ☁️🚀, CEO of Cosmonic - Lukas Gentele, CEO and co-founder of Loft Labs - Rajiv Thakkar, director of product marketing, Portworx by Pure Storage - Liz Warner, CTO of Percona - Omer Hamerman, principal engineer at Zesty Also, a big thank you to Doug Dineley for your editorial guidance. We've got some other stories in the pipeline, which I'm looking forward to sharing soon. For now, check out the piece on InfoWorld, and feel free to share what YOU think is the next big thing in cloud infra. https://lnkd.in/ekjFS3ej #kubernetes #cloudnative #cncf #cloud #cloudinfrastructure #softwareinfrastructure

"This might be a contentious one, but..." When you are designing an application for elasticity: ◾Distribute the data, not the database. ◾Strong Consistency is the wrong default. ◾Mutable State needs to be contained and non-observable. ◾Use a single abstraction for communication across all dimensions of scale. ◾Distribute data and logic together. Follow the link below to watch the full video and learn the full story from Jonas Bonér, distributed systems expert. Let us know your thoughts—comment, react, and share! 🔗 https://bit.ly/4cH0zXG #ScalableArchitecture #DistributedSystems #ApplicationDevelopment #SoftwareArchitect #Scalability #EventDrivenArchitecture #Akka #Concurrency

🚨 Distribute Your Data, Not Your Database! 🚨 Is your replicated database leaving your app non-responsive during external events like operations, workloads, or failures? It’s time to face some hard truths about database replication: 💥 Physical Replication: Sure, it replicates everything—kind of like photocopying your entire office to keep one stapler alive. No context, no rolling upgrades, just a whole lot of redundancy. And patching? Good luck with that as all database instances must always be the same version. 💥 Logical Replication: Replicating only your DML (data) but leaving your DDL (schema) alone. Your schema’s future? Well, it’s stuck in the past. And forget about large objects or sequences as they are not supported. 💥 Schema Replication: This one’s a doozy. Replicate your DML and DDL but brace yourself for consistency conflicts that will twist your app logic into a pretzel. Oh, and those triggers? They only fire on one node. Good luck explaining that one to your team. Even with a fully replicated database, you’re still left juggling load balancing, retries, and cache coherency. Enter #Akka. 🎩✨ With #Akka, logic and data are distributed together—no need to dive into the deep end of database complexities. #Akka’s got 15 years of innovation under its belt, offering your applications nearly infinite scale, elasticity, and resilience. So, why sweat the #database stuff when #Akka can do the @data lifting? 👉 Discover more at http://akka.io

🚀 Over 1 Billion Downloads! 🚀 #Akka is the quiet powerhouse behind the scenes for companies like DHL, Volkswagen Group, General Motors, and Tesla. When they say Akka "just works," they mean it. Here's why: 𝗜𝗻-𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲: Each Akka application functions as its own in-memory database, with the runtime seamlessly managing data partitioning and rebalancing as nodes are added or removed. It's like having a data wizard on autopilot. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 & 𝗔𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗲: Akka applications are designed to recover quickly from failures, thanks to state changes being persisted on networked event buses. This flexibility allows instances to be moved closer to end users or shifted for maintenance without missing a beat. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱-𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘀: Every instance of an Akka app acts as a read-write replica, enabling parallel writes across different locations. Akka’s built-in conflict resolution ensures your data stays consistent, no matter where it’s accessed. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Whether in the cloud or on-premises, Akka apps self-cluster and perform identically across all environments. It's reliable and consistent, no matter where you deploy it. 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: Synchronize, replicate, share, aggregate, or stream data between Akka applications without needing third-party integrations. It’s like having a built-in team of data engineers at your service.
