We’re happy to kick off Eye Donation Month with our own special milestone. This year LifeShare celebrates 30 years giving sight from our own eye bank. Over the past three decades, we’ve honored donations from more than 9,000 eye donors, resulting in more than 11,000 transplants. This year we proudly opened our newly accredited eye processing lab. When a kidney is ready for transplant, it's go time 💚💙 Usually, organs are matched with recipients before the organ recovery surgery. But some kidneys need a little extra boost before the transplant. That’s where our organ preservation team comes in. The kidneys are placed on a kidney pump to be observed and "babysat" until they’re matched with a transplant recipient. After a kidney is accepted by a transplant center, our team gets it ready to head to the hospital so another life can be saved!

Our organ preservation coordinators have to be ready at the drop of a hat to save lives! They are always on call to help assist in the recovery of organs across the country. When they're on call, they are keeping up with active cases, monitoring the function of recovered kidneys, and preparing for their next flyout! Of course, in the interim, they're able to eat, laugh, and bond with their teammates! Parker Vaquez is one of our selfless organ donors. You may remember seeing a touching video of his honor walk a few months ago. His parents were interviewed by Newsweek about their son's heroic act and the way donation has impacted them. "People say I'm strong and brave, but I don't see it that way.
