This week, we joined communities around the country for #BannedBooksWeek, standing for free expression and defending the freedom to read. On Sunday, we kicked off the week with a special ALOUD LA x WORDTheatre program, bringing together a special ensemble to shine a spotlight on the historical and current state of #BookBans in our country.

It was such a joy to come together as a community at the Literary Awards last weekend! Emceed by Alex Cohen, this year’s program honored the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout and long-time LFLA supporters Ela and Nikhil Jhaveri. The audience delighted in a surprise performance by Cedering Fox's WORDTheatre actors Kathy Baker, Sharon Lawrence, and Judy Reyes who read from a selection of Strout’s celebrated works. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our sponsors, the Literary Awards raised critical funds for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles to enhance the Los Angeles Public Library's ability to enrich, educate, and empower all Angelenos for generations to come. Until next time!

No Prior Art: Illustrations of Invention is now on view at Central Library! It was such a privilege to celebrate the exhibition's launch this week with so many of our wonderful partners, artists, and supporters. Part of Getty's PST ART: "Art & Science Collide" initiative and inspired by Los Angeles Public Library's patent and intellectual property resources, this ambitious show delves into the unexpected stories and perspectives of more than a dozen artists and creators at the intersection of art, science, and social impact. We welcome you to come and explore! The exhibition will be on view until May 11, 2025.
