After weeks of hearing conflicting information from different agencies, Kendahl Stevens came to Legal Aid DC for help with her unemployment benefits. Her attorney Eric helped Ms. Stevens get the answers and benefits she needed so she could get back on her feet.

Legal Aid DC recently hosted a legal clinic to help people with low-level marijuana offenses on their record apply for a presidential pardon. In response to a call to action from the White House Counsel’s Office for legal service providers, Legal Aid organized the clinic along with pro bono attorneys from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. The clinic helped more than a dozen clients apply for pardons, and many have already received their certificates!

Sterne Kessler is excited to partner with Whitman-Walker for their annual Medicare Part D enrollment program! This initiative, in partnership with Legal Aid DC, assists thousands of low-income, elderly, and disabled residents in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Together, we help them navigate Medicare Part D drug plans, ensuring they access their prescription medications at the lowest prices and with the fewest restrictions. #2024ProBonoWeek

This is a public service announcement to take pro bono cases! As a regulatory/corporate attorney I don’t get many opportunities to argue a case or work with individual clients, but through pro bono and Legal Aid DC, I was able to represent a DC neighbor and obtain a fully favorable decision from an ALJ reinstating her social security benefits. It feels great and I’ll never forget that phone call letting her know that we won! A big thank you to Legal Aid DC, the pro bono teams at Steptoe LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, and my supervising attorney Lisa Zarlenga!

Legal Aid filed a lawsuit yesterday against the owners of the Minnesota Commons apartment complex, who violated tenants' rights when the building was illegally sold earlier this year. Read more:

Even though she wasn't charged with a crime, Rosie Martin worried that her unjust arrest would derail her career. With help from Legal Aid DC and a "dream team" of WilmerHale attorneys, her record was sealed, allowing her to move forward without the arrest hanging over her. “Knowing that this was taken care of and that there were people working on my behalf, it was a great feeling," she said.
