LSC was in the Bay Area last night for an event with Stanford Law School on ways to boost support support for legal aid and close the nation's justice gap. Speakers included Nora Engstrom and David Engstrom, co-directors of the Deborah L. Rhode Center on the Legal Profession at Stanford Law School; Kate Adams , general counsel of Apple; Alexis Amezcua, partner at Morrison Foerster; Colin H. Murray, North America CEO of Baker McKenzie; and LSC leadership. “In the absence of representation for those who cannot afford it, there is no rule of law," said Adams. She added that it is "only because of LSC and legal aid organizations that people facing domestic violence, facing bankruptcy, facing eviction [...] have access to justice.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/erFuPN_4

Do existing legal ethics rules cover AI? Catch the latest episode of our Talk Justice podcast for insights from Host Caitlin (Cat) Moon and Suffolk University Law School Dean Andrew Perlman. Perlman authored an article earlier this year, “The Legal Ethics of Generative AI,” which describes how lawyers can use generative AI while satisfying their ethical obligations. “I think the big takeaway here is—and I think the ethics opinions reflect this point—we just need to look at the existing rules, understand how they play out in this context, and that provides pretty good guidance for lawyers when they're thinking about what they need to do with regard to generative AI,” he says. LSC grantee Legal Aid Chicago is partnering with a trauma center to help get survivors and their families the resources they need. During the program's first year of operation, 366 patients were screened and more than 97% had at least one health-harming legal need. "It’s been really rewarding to see that patients are getting what they deserve, especially after going through something really traumatic,” said Rhea Pillai, program coordinator for the program. #MLP #MedicalLegal #MedicalLegalPartnerships
