As part of this year's 21st Annual Architecture + the City Festival hosted by AIA San Francisco and Center for Architecture + Design, San Francisco, we invite you to join us this Wednesday, September 18th from 3-5 PM, for the event "Affordable Housing Tour: Casa Adelante." For tickets and more event details, visit: https://lnkd.in/g-qS735W __ "Located in the vibrant Mission District on the transit-rich 16th Street corridor, Casa Adelante provides 143 affordable family units, providing significant new affordable housing within a neighborhood struggling with displacement. Six of the units are townhome-style units for larger families. The ground floor provides community spaces for residents, tenant space for community arts organizations, and an early-childhood education center. The sheltered podium level includes in-home daycare units with direct access to a play area, for residents to offer daycare to other families in the building. The roof deck includes a community garden for food production, with an outdoor kitchen for resident use. Colorful exterior tile, and the mural series "Make Things New" by the San Francisco artist Lorraine Garcia-Nakata on the 16th Street facade and podium level, celebrate the culture and community of the Mission District. The project provides an example of how developers and architects can address community needs while integrating into the culture and life of the neighborhood." __ Architect and Interiors: LEDDY MAYTUM STACY Architects Contractor: Nibbi Brothers General Contractors Structural Engineer: Tipping MEP Engineer: EDesignC, Inc. As part of this year's 21st Annual Architecture + the City Festival, we invite you join us this Wednesday, September 11th from 1 - 3 PM, for the event "Affordable Housing Tour: Sunnydale’s New Community Center | HOPE SF." For tickets and more event details, visit: https://lnkd.in/eht2pmAy __ At the south edge of the city, Sunnydale HOPE SF is one of San Francisco’s biggest redevelopment projects, replacing WWII-era public housing with more than 1,770 new affordable and market-rate homes; new streets and infrastructure; 3.5 acres of new green space; and extensive retail and community uses. Opening in September, the new Sunnydale Community Center will be at the heart of this reimagined neighborhood and serve as a new gateway into McLaren Park. Combined with the adjacent Herz Recreation Center, the Community Center will form the core of a new campus that supports connections to nature and provides a safe, lively and nurturing environment. An inclusive hub for a diverse community, the Center will include a Wu Yee Children's Services child-care center and a Boys & Girls Club along with a range of shared neighborhood spaces—a community kitchen, multipurpose rooms, meeting rooms, and a recording studio. Project architects from LEDDY MAYTUM STACY Architects – Ian Ashcraft-Williams, AIA, NOMA and Sara Sepandar, AIA, LEED AP – provide a facility tour as well as insight into the design and construction of the building, which used mass timber construction as an innovative, durable, low-carbon alternative to concrete and steel. There will also be a housing tour led by David Baker Architects. Note: The housing tour will be a hard-hat tour, with full PPE (personal protective gear) provided. Hard, closed-toed shoes are required. Construction is expected to finish in February 2025. __ Owners: Mercy Housing, Related California , Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco, Wu Yee Children's Services Architecture: #LeddyMaytumStacy Builder: Swinerton / Timberlab Structural: KPFF Consulting Engineers #communitycenter #mclarenpark #masstimberconstruction #masstimber #aiasf AIA San Francisco Center for Architecture + Design, San Francisco

LMSa #SummerIntern appreciation spotlight on Phoebe Gwyndale Urbano, who is pursuing a B.Arch at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona: "I had a wonderful experience interning at LEDDY MAYTUM STACY Architects! My responsibilities included model making, rendering, LEED certifications, making material boards, editing graphics, and organizing the material board-I enjoyed every single thing I was involved in! I most importantly cherished the opportunity to work in teams on real-world projects. The exposure I got from this internship is certainly unmatched from what I learned in school. I was encouraged to learn from my colleagues. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to broaden/improve my communication skills, time management, and knowledge of on-site construction. I also really enjoyed the culture at LMS! The site visits, happy hours, bike rides, and overall social environment is what makes LMS a very special and fun place to work at. I admire the healthy work/life/social balance that LMS offers." - Phoebe Gwyndale U. Thanks Phoebe for a great summer – wishing you all the best this school year! #leddymaytumstacy #architecturalintern

Opening today at UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design's Bauer Wurster Gallery is the traveling exhibition 'Design & Advocacy: Lessons from the work of Marsha Maytum, FAIA.' https://lnkd.in/g_NShTAs "In an era of unprecedented change and challenges, Marsha Maytum, FAIA (1954–2024), helped to redefine the role of the architect in society. She believed that we can no longer afford to be simply form makers — we must learn to focus the transformative power of design and advocacy to lead our communities toward a just, resilient, carbon-neutral future for all. This exhibition showcases her nearly half-century career devoted to making the world a better place." The exhibit is on view through September 11, 2024. The gallery is free and open to the public, Mondays through Fridays, from 10am to 4pm. And this fall, the exhibit will next be on display at the University of Oregon School of Architecture & Environment (SAE) in Eugene, OR.
