Thank you to Metropolitan Ministries for hosting over 80 LAMPLighters today at our first general meeting of the year! President Laura Maddalon kicked off her “We make a difference“ theme with enthusiasm and encouragement. The chairperson of Fall into Fashion, Dina Sheridan, got us all excited about our first fundraiser October 23 where we mix fashion with philanthropy. We support organizations serving homeless children and families in need in the Tampa Bay area.
About us
In 1986, a few caring and dedicated volunteers joined together to form a support group for Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa. A desire to "light the way" for displaced families led to the selection of the name "LAMPLighters". The LAMPLighters mission statement is “To support organizations serving homeless families in need by engaging in activities to improve their health, education, rehabilitation and by providing opportunities for their spiritual development”. In 2002-03, the membership voted to expand the scope to assist other programs supporting children in need. Beginning that year, a portion of the annual funds raised were allocated to Joshua House, a program and shelter for abused and neglected children from the Tampa Bay area.

We have been so fortunate to work alongside this man since 1985! We are blessed to be part of the outreach he created!
Rev. Morris E. Hintzman dedicated his life to serving the poor and homeless, first as a United Methodist minister, and then with Metropolitan Ministries for over four decades. His unwavering commitment to those in need has left an indelible mark on our community. His legacy is not just one of service but of profound hope and compassionate love. Morris’s work has been a beacon of light for countless individuals and families who have faced the darkest times. His actions and words have brought solace and support to those who needed it most and inspired so many of us to do our part in caring for our most vulnerable neighbors. We invite you to join us in celebrating the life of Morris on Saturday, September, 21, 2024, at Bay Hope Church, Lakeshore Campus, 17030 Lakeshore Road, in Lutz, FL. There will be a 10:30 am visitation, Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am, and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, you can support the Morris E. Hintzman Senior Care Fund: https://lnkd.in/emnhkewW #HopeLivesForever #RememberingMorris #MetropolitanMinistries #HopeDoesMore

The LAMPLighters proudly contributed over $258,000 to Metropolitan Ministries and Joshua House during the 2023-24 year, culminating in a joyous end-of-year luncheon at the Tampa Yacht Club. At the event, checks were presented to Tim Marks of Metropolitan Ministries and DeDe Grundel of Friends of Joshua House Foundation, Inc. The luncheon also featured the installation of our new LAMPLighters board. Our remarkable president, Amy Hull, gave a heartwarming recap of our extraordinary year, while incoming president @Laura Maddalon shared an inspiring outlook for the coming year. Exciting times lie ahead for our organization as we continue to support homeless and at-risk children in our community!

LAMPLighters Tampa are passionate about fostering connections within our community, and there's no better avenue for this than our involvement in volunteering at the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent! Once again, our dedicated group adorned the iconic red aprons, joining other community organizations to extend a helping hand to families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. It's heartening to share that on this single day, the tent successfully served 830 families! The sense of fulfillment we derive from these opportunities is immense, and we are eagerly anticipating our next volunteer day scheduled for December 15, where we will continue spreading joy during the Christmas season. We invite you to join us in making a positive impact together! https://lnkd.in/esPA4tQ #ShareHope
