We're so excited to see this show continue its life on Broadway in January of 2025! Speaking about her return to Broadway next year, Menzel said in a statement: “I made my Broadway debut at the Nederlander Theatre in ‘Rent’ almost 30 years ago, so to be returning there with ‘Redwood’ is very emotional for me as it feels like a real homecoming. It has been such a gift to collaborate with Tina and Kate on this show, and I’m so proud to bring it to Broadway.” https://lnkd.in/gNRcrspa

We are deeply saddened by the loss of San Diego arts leader Dea Hurston. Together with her husband and Playhouse trustee Osborn Hurston, Dea was deeply woven into the fabric of La Jolla Playhouse and the entire San Diego theatre community. As a San Diego arts commissioner, supporter, philanthropist and playwright, Dea was a powerful force in our community. She was a fierce champion of uplifting Black artists and artists of color – and it is a fitting tribute that the opening of the Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center marked the first arts center in the country to be named after a Black woman outside of New York City. We will miss Dea deeply, but we know her legacy will be felt for many more years to come.

It's #ThankfulThursday and this week, the Playhouse is turning attention to The Conrad Prebys Foundation, a proud sponsor of Native Voices at the Autry at La Jolla Playhouse. Throughout an eight-week course that culminated June 16 in the Young Native Playwrights Festival, Native youth in grades 7-12 learned valuable playwriting skills which they used to create their own short plays performed onstage at the Handlery Hotel in San Diego as well as livestreamed for the world to see. We offer our sincere thanks to the Prebys Foundation for their exceptional commitment to La Jolla Playhouse enabling us to develop and present diverse new works and voices! https://bit.ly/EmbersLJP
