About us
Kinship Milk Tea was inpired by years spent in Thailand and Irelend, surrounded by the best tea on earth. We decided to bring those experiences home with strongly brewed loose-leaf tea mixed with a splash of oat milk and a touch of raw cane sugar, bottled up and ready to drink. Kinship is your unruly younger brother that’s really lovable but doesn’t follow the rules very well. We've tossed the teatime rulebook out the window by steeping our tea within an inch of its life to draw out all the flavor so it can stand up to the oat milk and sugar. Life is messy and imperfect, and so are we. We wouldn't have it any other way. In 2023, Kinship was one of 10 businesses invited to participate in the Whole Foods Local and Emerging Accelerator Program Cohort.

We had such a blast participating in Wednesday night's Pitch Slam with Naturally Austin! Massive congrats to everyone who got up there and gave it their all, and congratulations to @daybird for bringing home the first place trophy!
The Naturally Austin Pitch Slam was a huge success! A packed house watched as the founders of the six brands - HUNDY! Love&Cookies Daybird PKN Kinship Milk Tea and Granarly - each presented to an esteemed panel of judges (including SKU mentor Kelly Spillane!) to secure funding or partnerships for their startup. Each brand showcases the exciting innovation coming out of Austin's CPG community. The winner was Daybird, a first-of-its kind formula combining makeup, skincare and suncare. I am excited to share this inspiring podcast with yet another bad-ass woman founder. Caitlin Cash is definitely someone to pay attention to. When you listen to her talk, you may believe that she actually started her brand Kinship Milk Tea because she had no choice. She said some words that I love "when you feel that passionate about something, there's no other option." Why do I love that for her and other founders? Because starting a brand in the CPG space (or any space) is really really hard. In my opinion, passion is a necessary quality in a founder especially in this ridiculously competitive environment. And while many founders start with the end goal of building a famous brand and/or one to sell, Caitlin says it’s not about the end game for her. It’s about what she will learn, accomplish, and build during the exciting and challenging journey of starting her own brand. And I think she means it:) Listen to her talk about how she got inspired to start Kinship Milk Tea while teaching English in Thailand. She would buy milk tea in a convenience store and after returning to Austin and unsuccessfully looking for something similar, she realized there was a need in the market. My favorite, and maybe the most unique part of her story, is the intentionally slow growth and distribution. I think in this climate, it is incredibly smart. She is literally like talking to the sunshine. Holy mother of all that’s good - what a year 2023 was. Here are some highlights! > we launched our newest flavor, English Breakfast, and hosted a whimsical and fantastical Alice in Wonderland themed tea party to celebrate > we participated in the Austin Coffee Fest and met an astronomical amount of incredible people over the two days (we also dropped and broke some bottles as we loaded up and laughed about it) > we worked with UT McCombs students on a consulting project during the fall semester to dial in our inventory management (which felt like a full circle moment to be back at McCombs) > we spoke on a Women’s Day Panel with some of our favorite small business owners and all of our strong, badass friends and my Dad came out to support > we were accepted into the Whole Foods Market 2023 Local and Emerging Accelerator Program and went through a 12-week boot camp where we met lifelong friends and learned a ton > we recorded a podcast with our wonderful friend Sam about the intersection of bikes and business > we won a Shelfie Award for Best Ready to Drink Tea from Startup CPG (we were totally and completely shocked!) We rode the highs and made it through the lows, just like we do every year and we are so grateful for the journey. You all make it worth it, every single day! Cheers to starting off 2024 with a kick ass mindset!
