This summer has brought incredible challenges to the communities of southern New Mexico, facing one devastating wildfire after another. The South Fork and Salt fires, among others, forced the evacuation of thousands and caused extensive damage. As if the fires weren’t enough, subsequent flooding from burn scars added to the devastation, threatening lives and property across the region. In the face of such adversity, the resilience and dedication of New Mexico’s communities have shone brightly. We have seen first responders, local nonprofits and community leaders stepping up, coordinating vital efforts to provide emergency shelter, food and more to those displaced. At the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, we are proud to support these efforts through our partnership with the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico and others, ensuring critical resources are available for recovery and rebuilding. We stand with our partners and the people of New Mexico as they rebuild and restore their communities. Join us in supporting their resilience and recovery: https://wkkf.co/r0jq

Vicky Stott, senior program officer at WKKF, reflects on her time at the GEO 2024 National Conference. Check out her insights below: During the GEO 2024 National Conference, I was profoundly moved by ALOK’s words: “How do we center humanity in the work when we lack proximity to injustice and suffering?” This question struck a chord, reminding me that, in philanthropy, we sometimes become disconnected from the very communities we aim to serve. ALOK’s powerful call to transform from within challenged me to re-evaluate my own practices and to remember that at its core, philanthropy is about love for humanity. We must remain close to injustice, truly listen to communities, and align our work with the fundamental rights and needs of people. The future of philanthropy depends on our ability to center humanity in all that we do. How are you ensuring that your philanthropic work is grounded in humanity and love for the communities you serve? 🌍❤️ Read more here: https://wkkf.co/c9vw

In their latest brief, "The Hidden Burden of Student Debt & The Potential of Employer Provided Solutions," Commonwealth, with the support of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, surveyed 612 workers earning low- and moderate-income (LMI) and holding student debt to better understand their needs and preferences for support through workplace benefits. The findings from this research add to existing insights on the link between student loans and employee financial well-being, and can help inform employers committed to addressing student debt for their employees. By doing so, employers can improve their workers’ financial security, job satisfaction, and retention as part of a holistic approach to workplace financial security.
