Kappa Delta Sorority

“Sable Cleveland (Beta Zeta-South Carolina) and I go way back—to elementary school, believe it or not!” said Holly Jones (Epsilon Tau-Clemson), laughing as she pointed out a photo from their fourth-grade class. “We didn’t even realize we were in the same class until just recently!” Though they attended the same elementary, middle and high schools, Sable and Holly didn’t reconnect until Sable moved back to Greenville post-law school. “It’s funny how things work out,” Holly added. “We weren’t close in school, but when we both ended up in KD, it showed how aligned our values were—even when we didn’t know it.” Their bond continued to grow after college, when they both found themselves actively involved in Kappa Delta as alumnae, serving together on an alumnae chapter executive board and as part of the Epsilon Tau advisory board for recruitment. “It’s tough making new friends as adults,” Sable admitted, “but we have each other—and a shared love for reading, Love Island and all things pop culture.” Now, their friendship is stronger than ever, rooted not only in shared history but also in a commitment to the sorority. “It’s wild to think how we started out in the same fourth-grade class, and now we’re navigating life together as adults,” Holly said. “We might have taken different paths, but Kappa Delta brought us back together.” Throughout September, we are sharing stories of Kappa Delta friendship in celebration of International Women’s Friendship Month — stories about you and your unique friendships and why those friendships are so important. #IWFM

This past month I designed and crafted over 600 custom buttons for members of the Beta Zeta Kappa Delta Sorority, designating 20% of the profit to one of our philanthropies, Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA).    Not only did I surpass my fundraising goal by 15%, but I also organized multiple button distribution days, ensuring everything ran smoothly and that everyone received their buttons on time.    This initiative allowed me to combine my passion for design with giving back to my community, while also expanding my organizational and entrepreneurial skills and I am incredibly proud of what was accomplished!

My Outstanding Panhellenic Leadership Award came this week and it still shocks me that I'm being recognized nationally by Kappa Delta Sorority and that I met these amazing women that are being recognized alongside me. This organization has given me leadership skills, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Forty-nine years ago, Mary Young joined Kappa Delta at Millsaps College. The following year, Claudia Hopkins Ragon joined, and the two became roommates and forever friends. Claudia stood by Mary’s side as a bridesmaid when she married in 1978. Both earned their MBAs from Millsaps in 1982 and later moved to different cities, but their friendship remained strong. For nearly five decades, they have been there through every major life event, good and bad. Their unwavering friendship has been a source of strength throughout the years. The ultimate gift Claudia gave Mary was reconnecting Mary with Claudia’s former college boyfriend, Dr. Ken Davis. They married in December 2020, and now she has even more Kappa Delta sisters by her side—Ken's sisters, Jana Johnston Cox (Alpha Chi-Louisiana Tech) and Robbyn Davis Johnson (Gamma Psi-Delta State). Congratulations to Julie Johnson (Sigma Psi–North Dakota State) for being honored with the Association of Fraternity & Sorority Advisors' prestigious 2024 Jack L. Anson Award! This award recognizes outstanding service beyond one’s own organization, and Julie’s dedication to the entire fraternity/sorority community is truly inspiring. With over 40 years of Panhellenic service, including 30 on Kappa Delta’s National Council, Julie’s impact extends far beyond Kappa Delta. From leading key initiatives within the National Panhellenic Conference to advocating for innovation in recruitment and retention, she has been a trailblazer for the future of our community. Jessica Bocanegra (Zeta Theta-New Jersey) started grad school at University of Vermont and wanted to give back to Kappa Delta. She joined CAB and met Delaney Sullivan (Alpha Theta-Vermont) during the 2019 Convention when she told her she would be her new CAB counterpart. “We bonded deeply while navigating virtual recruitment together,” said Jessica. “Delaney was UVM Panhellenic VP-Recruitment, and I was CAB-Membership for Alpha Theta. Our late-night calls about tackling recruitment safely became some of my favorite memories.” “In 2021, I joined the National Leadership Team as a Chapter Membership Specialist, and Delaney took on CAB for Alpha Theta,” explained Jessice. “A few years later, she joined me on NLT as a Chapter Recruitment Specialist.
