About us

The mission of the Kane County Regional Office of Education is to advocate for education, provide leadership, perform regulatory functions, and coordinate state and local services for educators, school districts, and the community. Alternative Program: Part of our Alternative Program division is our Youth Outreach Workers; counselors that assist schools and students with truancy prevention. The Kane County ROE also offers the Equal Chance Program which advocates for homeless student education. This program is administered by the Area One Lead Program and funded by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education through the McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 2001. Our alternative programs department assists with at-risk youth and their families facing atypical circumstances within the school system, whether it be homelessness, truancy, expulsion, or delinquency. As stated by the Illinois State Board of Education, regional offices of education are also responsible for investigating noncompliance within private, homeschool arrangements. Partnerships & Communication: Our biggest annual celebration is our Educator Of The Year Awards Ceremony in which we honor teachers, administrators and support staff. To learn more about our involvement and events with external organizations and our school districts, please subscribe to our semimonthly newsletter and visit us on our social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Testing Center: Tests that can be taken at the ROE include the GED, Constitution Test, Paraprofessional Test, and more. Transcripts from testing can be provided upon request.

Artificial Intelligence in schools, hiring, transportation, licensure, and more were covered in this week's session. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with these educators!

  • A child that misses 10% or more of school days within a year is considered chronically absent, and research shows that those students are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve at the same level in middle school as students that are not chronically absent, or graduate high school. As recently highlighted in Kane County Connects by the Kane County Governmental Office, our Community Intervention Program and Truancy Intervention Program have been in motion to get students off on the right foot with consistent attendance this school year. Our Youth Outreach team has also been working with our school districts to connect families and children with necessary resources and support to remove barriers that my dissuade students from wanting to attend school. • We send a round of applause to Heartland Elementary of Geneva Community Unit School District 304 for being one of 18 Illinois schools to be named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2024. According to the U.S. Department of Education, National Blue Ribbon Schools represent the diverse fabric of American schools. Leaders not only articulate a vision of excellence and hold everyone to high standards, but they also stay close to the real action of teaching and learning. Faculty are valued and supported through meaningful professional learning and opportunities to work as colleagues and peer supporters. Data from many sources drive instruction and student support services to ensure every student is set up to succeed. Families, communities, and educators work together toward common goals. Congratulations on this prestigious honor, Hawks!
