Recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to recognize the past and present contributions of individuals with disabilities as well as inclusive laws, policies, and practices that preserve the rights of those with disabilities. The theme for NDEAM 2024 is “Access to Good Jobs for All.” JVS of MetroWest has been working with people with disabilities for decades. We believe EVERYONE should have the opportunity to fulfill their own potential and contribute to society. That’s why we offer adults with physical, psychological, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities the individualized assistance necessary to enable them to be successful in the workforce—and the larger world. Helping People Help Themselves. JVS repairs the world, one person at a time.
About us
Using the slogan “Helping People Help Themselves,” JVS repairs the world, one person at a time; allowing our program participants to achieve the highest degree of independence and dignity. Our staff of more than 50 skilled professionals work with a diverse range of individuals in need of employment, education, corporate training, rehabilitation and other specialized services—from the unskilled single mother receiving public assistance to the entry, mid and executive level job seekers; from the sixteen-year-old high school dropout in trouble with the law to the recent college graduate; from the non-English speaking refugee to American-born adults seeking to earn their GED; from the high school freshman with autism to the corporations that are seeking training for their employees. JVS fulfills its mission each and every day by living our adopted credo: “The highest degree of charity is to take hold of persons who have been crushed . . . to find work for them and thus put them on their feet so they will not be dependent upon others.” (Moses Maimonides, 1135-1204)

Over the weekend, JVS took part in two events in the local community: Kessler’s Stroll ‘n Roll Fall Fest in West Orange and Montclair’s Walnut Street Fair. Notwithstanding the steady rain, JVS staff had the opportunity to speak with members of the community about our mission and services. We thank Kessler Foundation and the The Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc. for hosting us and putting on great events. #JVSintheCommunity #Kessler #WalnutStreetFair #FallFest #CommunityEvents #EssexCounty #WestOrange #Montclair #NJ #JVSofMetroWest #NonProfit

Yesterday at Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange, we held our annual picnic for participants in our Disability Services department. Over the course of the day, participants enjoyed games of soccer, kickball, Jenga, cornhole, and more. They also took a walk to the 9/11 Memorial overlooking the NYC skyline. Everyone worked up an appetite for a barbeque lunch catered by C&C Catering, and a visit from Bob’s Ice Cream Truck. It was a great day! #ClientBarbeque #DisabilityServices #VocationalRehabilitation #JVSofMetroWest #EagleRockReservation #WestOrange #EssexCounty #NJ #NonProfit

September is Workforce Development Month. Ten years ago, the Federal government passed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers. At JVS, everything we do is in the interest of helping people obtain employment and helping employers find valuable workers. We help people identify and overcome barriers. Each department meets people where they are and matches them with the right training and the right services to get to where they want to be. Workforce Development isn’t just about individuals and companies – it’s about communities. When our employer partners hire our clients, the benefit is three-fold: individuals can provide for themselves and their families with dignity; the company gains a good worker; and the local economy receives a boost. We celebrate this month by continuing to invest in education and training, in fostering innovation, and in building stronger communities together by implementing robust workforce development programs that provide opportunities for all. Visit https://lnkd.in/e_vw6g_U to learn more about our training programs. #WorkforceDevelopmentMonth #WDM2024 #JVSofMetroWest #WorkforceDevelopment #CareerServices #Training #CertifiedTrainingPrograms #EastOrange #EssexCounty #NJ #WOIA
