🚨 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: "𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲"! At first, this sounds like a bad joke, but it is reality. According to a recent Forbes report, Hugging Face has unknowingly hosted thousands of files with hidden malware. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: ➜ From August to October, the number of models on Hugging Face surged from around 800,000 to over 1 million. There are a significant number of new models uploaded by fake accounts pretending to represent major companies (such as Meta or Visa). ➜ They contAIN hidden code that will be executed during model loading, potentially enabling Remote Code Execution (RCE) attacks. This means hackers could screen for sensitive information — passwords, financial data — you name it. ➜ Over 3,000 malicious files were discovered and some malicious models were downloaded thousands of times (this is a pretty big number!). I’ve experimented extensively with models on Hugging Face myself this year, and luckily, I haven’t run into any issues so far. But this definitely should be a wake-up call for everyone in the AI community, because otherwise you might find a trojan horse in your HF models. 🎠 🤗 What can you do? ✅ Always scan models before downloading ✅ Verify the authenticity of profiles ✅ Stay updated on AI security best practices This is also a great example that security by design is essential for AI-ready organizations — not just as best practice but as a necessity. Therefore, added layers of security offered by enterprise-ready AI platforms like IBM's WatsonX can help mitigate these risks. AI costs. A factor of a 100 less than a decade ago. Voice costs more than Text. OpenAI just released their most advanced Voice to Voice capability. Costs? Roughly USD 6 cents per minute of listening and USD 24 cents per minute of talking. Blended rate of somewhere around $10-12 per hour, on the assumption that the AI assistant does more talking. Seems affordable.. unless you currently don't offer a voice assistance. We can expect costs to keep falling, but that text only assistants will make sense for the foreseeable future.
