    Back when I owned a retail bicycle shop, I did everything I could to avoid being pitched by salespeople. At industry conferences, I couldn't wear a name tag with my shop's name without being constantly approached. It's not that I dislike people. I just don’t like being sold to. I could talk bikes all day with someone who loves them as much as I do, but the moment someone started pushing their latest deal on aftermarket wheelsets, I was looking for an exit. Now, at Jointly, I find myself wanting to connect with cannabis retailers - not to sell, but to share the tools we've built. These tools could help solve the challenges they face, and I think any retailer serious about best practices will find what we’ve created compelling. So, maybe I’m in sales now. Begrudgingly. Depends on definitions. Either way, as it turns out, cannabis retailers are just as elusive as I used to be. Perhaps even more so. With that in mind, I wrote an "Open Letter to Cannabis Retailers," which I published last week on Cannabis Uncaged.     These are the Fat Nugs Magazine Brand and Retail Partners. Besides the 10 or so Advertising Partners that help us go to print, our Brand and Retail Partners help us with our distribution. After a couple years contemplating and discussing traditional routes to distribution with big box, mainstream retailers, I decided that was the worst possible place to do business. The traditional process puts all the pressure on the publisher while the distributor and retailer enjoy the fruits of our labor. Sure they provide a shelf, but absolutely nothing else, and anything that doesn't sell is thrown in the trash, while payments come in 60-90 days later, and that's if I don't have to chase them down. Besides the enormous risk and upfront cost to get into traditional retail outlets, when they told me they'd throw away anything that didn't sell, the words F*CK THAT spilled out of my mouth. That ended my pursuit for traditional retail, and I simply started my own distribution paths. That's where Brand and Retail Partnerships come in. The programs have been highly successful so far with us now reaching into 13 states with 4k print copies. Why do these brands and retailers participate? Besides loving what we do and getting the magazine at cost which is $3.75 per copy: 1. We add them to our weekly zine, every single week. 2. Once we're done with building our new website with PufCreativ our partners will be added to two places and back linked. 3. We push our partners through socials constantly. 4. And here's the big one - we publish our partner's press releases for free. Ever seen how expensive that is??? We do it for free because we simply appreciate our partners. No one else in the industry is doing anything like this, because no one can afford to. The program is so inexpensive that any brand or retailer, no matter the size can join us. Just ask. How are we able to basically give away the farm with this program? Because we're an ICP (Independent Cannabis Publication & Media Company) with no wealthy owners telling us what we can and can't do. No backers, no investors, no mommy and daddy money, we don't answer to any board or anything else.
