Aloha 🌺! We are delighted about our 1st Prospector installation in beautiful Hawaii. A big thank you to our University of Hawaii at Manoa customers Dr. Anthony Amend, Dr. Joanne Yew and Dr. Allexa Burger for working with us. And thank you FAS Theodore Bong for getting the system set up. Dr. Amend is Principal Investigator of the Integrative Center for Environmental Microbiomes and Human Health. He works at the intersection of biogeography, phylogenetics and community ecology theory to identify patterns and processes that underpin the assembly and function of microbial biodiversity in terrestrial 🌳and marine ecosystems 🌊. Learn more about Dr. Amend's research at amendlab.com Dr Yew's research focus is on the influence of the microbiome on host physiology. Using Drosophila genetic tools and biochemical analysis, her lab seeks to understand how environmental microbes contribute to the microbiome composition, health, and physiology of resident hosts. Learn more at yewlab.com We look forward to supporting the team 🤝 on helping them advance their research through the isolation and cultivation of interesting and beneficial microbes. #microbes #microbiome #microbiology #bacteria #microbialcultivation #culturomics #highthroughput #microbialbiodiversity #prospector

Good news! If you missed the recent presentation by Rachel Newsome, PhD, you can still watch the recording! Rachel presented findings from a study of gut microbiomes, enhanced with Bacteroides species, that have been associated with an improved anti-PD-1 response in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. She shared the methods used for high-throughput isolation and cultivation that enabled the discovery of an influential microbial metabolite, produced by Bacteroides, that has been shown to increase IFNγ production in CD8+ T cells and reduce tumor growth in a NSCLC mouse model.
