Edward Nakamura, our research analyst covering the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry, recently shared his insights in his latest whitepaper, “The Cool Stats About the Hot Stocks.” This comprehensive piece delves into the history, current market dynamics, and long-term trends that have recently propelled HVAC stocks to near all-time high levels.   Eddie highlights the environmental impact of HVAC systems, government and regulatory actions being taken to decrease the environmental footprint, and other long-term catalysts for the stocks involved such as artificial intelligence, growing aftermarket exposure, digitalization through software-connect equipment, and financial engineering. We expect these dynamics to provide steady demand for HVAC products and drive long-term growth for the companies involved.   To learn more about why we think this space is attractive and who the main players are, please visit: https://lnkd.in/ec2Djubq

Today, our team met with Judith Raneri, Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager of The Gabelli U.S. Treasury Money Market Fund, to discuss the latest jobs report. Raneri highlighted that with 254,000 jobs added, surpassing expectations, and the unemployment rate dropping to 4.1%, the labor market remains resilient. She explained that this strength will likely allow the Federal Reserve to take a less aggressive approach in its easing cycle, providing more flexibility as they manage inflation and maintain economic stability. PFAS contamination is a global challenge requiring urgent, collaborative solutions. At the Gabelli 2nd Annual PFAS Symposium, leaders from government, industry, and research discussed the way forward. Zach Schafer from the EPA highlighted the PFAS Strategic Roadmap, aiming to restrict and remediate PFAS, with new drinking water standards set to reduce PFAS to nearly undetectable levels by 2029. The EPA Superfund CERCLA is providing $9 billion to support affected communities. Rob Powelson, CEO of the National Association of Water Companies, emphasized the need for private investment to modernize aging water infrastructure, predicting industry consolidation among smaller, non-compliant systems. Innovators like BioLargo and Mineral Technologies presented advanced filtration and destruction technologies for more efficient remediation. Additionally, larger publicly-traded water utilities, Essential Utilities (WTRG), SJW Group (SJW), and Middlesex Water (MSEX) outlined monitoring, compliance strategies and outlooks for privatization and consolidation. The symposium underscored the necessity of cross-sector cooperation, infrastructure investment, and strong regulations to ensure safe water for future generations. With the right partnerships, we can meet this challenge. Sign up for our newsletter for more insights and events: https://lnkd.in/eq4TzDzc

In our latest report, “AI/Technology Wave – Early Implications for Financial Services”, Macrae Sykes – Portfolio Manager of the Gabelli Financial Services Opportunities ETF (GABF), explains how advancements in AI and computing could significantly boost the global economy by 2030. Sykes believes financial firms can leverage these new technologies for data aggregation, client engagement, and early identification of market trends. Firms with early adoption will likely benefit disproportionately against industry competitors. Notable firms such as Bank of America, American Express, and Visa are already leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and reduce fraud. Sykes believes that similar firms with large data pools and significant customer bases will have a unique opportunity to explore the potential uses for AI. On September 18th, 2024, the Federal Open Market Committee reduced interest rates by 50 basis points instead of the more widely expected quarter point reduction. This marks the first cut since March 2020, and represents the Fed officials’ desire to maintain a healthy economy and labor market. To understand how this cut in interest rates may affect markets, we asked our Portfolio Managers to share their industry outlooks for this new environment. Ron Eaker, co-manager of the Gabelli U.S. Treasury Money Market Fund, and Wayne Plewniak, Head of Fixed Income at Gabelli, recently shared their thoughts on the widely expected rate cuts to be announced this afternoon during the FOMC meeting. Ron discusses potential shifts in the Fed’s approach, as inflation moderates and employment takes center stage. While markets are expecting significant cuts, we believe the Fed may opt for a more gradual approach. Wayne adds that a “gradual and methodical” pace of rate reductions will be key for money market yields. With opportunities emerging in investment-grade and high-yield bonds, it may be a good time to shift focus toward total returns in fixed income.
