With VRF, a single outdoor unit connects to multiple indoor units, allowing for individualized control of temperature in different zones or rooms. This zoning capability enables precise temperature regulation, reducing energy waste by delivering heating or cooling only where needed. VRF systems also utilize inverter-driven compressors, which adjust their speed according to the required load, resulting in energy savings compared to traditional HVAC systems that operate at fixed speeds. Additionally, the heat recovery feature of VRF systems allows excess heat from cooling zones to be redirected and used for heating other areas, further optimizing energy efficiency. Overall, VRF technology offers superior comfort, flexibility, and energy efficiency, leading to significant savings for HVAC owners in the long run. Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of your VRF system.

Vice President, Architecture - Goodwyn Mills Cawood

Exciting changes are underway at Richland School District 2’s Rice Creek Elementary School. Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) team's design for the project includes the addition of a new Gymnasium, an Echo Lab Classroom, and support spaces, plus an expansion of the cafeteria. Renovations consist of interior alterations to create two MOD Classrooms and conversion of an existing classroom into offices. Site work consists of reconfiguration of the bus loop to share the drive with Ridgeview High School. With the new additions, the school will be able to increase its offerings of programs and events while also solving basic functional needs. Hood Construction Company, Inc. is the contractor for the $11,000,000 renovation/addition project. #k12design #education #richlandcounty #renovations #additions

  • Did you know that secondary drain pans are not always required for ducted VRF units in commercial HVAC installations? According to mechanical code 307.2.3, if your primary drain pan has a built-in water level detection device, you're good to go! Unfortunately, we've seen too many jobsites where these float switches aren't wired in correctly (or at all). This is an oversight that can lead to serious problems down the line. In addition, a secondary drain pan blocks access to the evaporator coil during service visits. It takes much more effort to remove a coil from a unit with an unneeded drain pan because of the bulkiness of the pan. These large pans are expensive, too, which adds to the project cost, unnecessarily. Here's a quick tip for all the mechanical contractors out there: 1.Know the Code: Familiarize yourself with M307.2.3 to avoid unnecessary installations. 2. Check the Float Switches: Ensure these crucial devices are properly wired in. 3. Follow Manufacturer Guidelines: Stick to the instructions provided to avoid any mishaps. A little bit of attention to detail can save a lot of headaches! #HVAC #VRFSystems #MechanicalCode #Contractors #HVACTips
