Electric Power Generation

Enabling new pathways between clean electricity and the broader economy

About us

Intersect Power is a clean energy company bringing innovative, scalable, and American-made, low-carbon solutions to its customers in global energy markets. We develop, own, and operate some of the world’s largest grid-tied clean energy resources, as well as co-located facilities for large industrial loads including data centers, e-fuels, and other energy intensive products. Intersect is laser-focused on the largest, most transformative clean energy projects that decarbonize the existing power grid and bring new loads to clean generation without the need for new transmission. Intersect is redefining the scope of the clean energy industry by enabling new pathways between clean electricity and the broader economy. We have a base portfolio of 2.2 GW of operating solar PV and 2.4 GWh of battery storage in operation or construction, representing ~$4B in capital investments. We will break ground on an additional 4 GW of solar PV and 10 GWh of battery storage representing ~$9B of assets in 2025.

The grid is broken, and nobody’s coming to save it—at least not anytime soon. In episode three of “Unsolicited Opinions on Climate Entrepreneurship,” I talk about why banking on miraculous solutions to our country’s transmission issues is a losing game. If we’re serious about supporting the explosive demand for electricity from data centers and other new loads, while also improving reliability and affordability for energy customers, we need innovative and realistic business strategies that have a clear path from idea to reality. What’s your take on the future of the grid?

  • In the second episode of "Unsolicited Opinions on Climate Entrepreneurship," our Founder and CEO Sheldon Kimber, discusses why true progress is about getting steel in the ground. What do you think the biggest challenge to deployment in the energy sector is today?

Technology alone won’t drive progress—deployment will. In the second episode of “Unsolicited Opinions on Climate Entrepreneurship,” I dive into why, in the energy sector, technology is more commodity than crown jewel, and why true progress is all about getting steel in the ground. Deployment in the energy sector is not like software, where a product can be iterated quickly and rapidly improved in the field at zero marginal cost. Energy deployment is slow, capital intensive, and gated by layers of stakeholders before it ever gets to end-user demand. Get good at that and you can be a great partner to a lot of technology companies as demonstrated by our recent strategic partnership with Google and TPG Rise Climate to co-locate data center load and clean power generation. What do you think are the biggest hurdles to actually getting things built?

Last month we announced an innovative strategic partnership with Google and Intersect Power (a TPG Rise Climate portfolio company) to co-locate scaled renewable power and storage solutions with gigawatts of new data center capacity across the US. In the latest episode of Partnerships in Focus, Sheldon Kimber, Intersect Power CEO and Founder, discusses how TPG Rise Climate’s mission-oriented approach and power of the TPG ecosystem has been critical to their continued ability to scale and bring clean power generation to some of the largest markets in North America. Watch more here: https://lnkd.in/ej8aqY7c “TPG is very authentic in their mission around the provision of capital to solve the climate crisis. And so that aligns very closely with the mission of Intersect Power.”

  • We’re excited to share the first episode of "Unsolicited Opinions on Climate Entrepreneurship," a new series featuring our Founder and CEO, Sheldon Kimber. This series explores Sheldon’s takes on the critical challenges and opportunities within our industry. Throughout the coming weeks, Sheldon will dive into topics like why deployment matters more than innovation and why load must come to the location of clean generation. In this episode, Sheldon emphasizes the importance of focusing on scalable solutions to meet rapidly increasing energy demand. Which scalable solutions do you think have the potential to make the biggest impact?

Nobody asked for it, but here it is: "Unsolicited Opinions on Climate Entrepreneurship." In this new series, which we’ll update quarterly, I’ll unload 25 years of “wisdom” from the trenches, toss around a few inconvenient truths, and serve up some thoughts on the future of energy and electrification that exactly zero people requested, but that’s how it goes with opinions. Everyone has one… We’ll cover everything from why deployment matters more than innovation to why we can’t rely on a quick fix for our transmission issues and why load must come to the location of clean generation. In the first episode, I get into why “doing some good” isn’t good enough. Sure, small wins look nice on paper, but if we’re serious about meeting rapidly increasing energy demand, we need big, scalable moves. In a world of limited resources, dollars and talent should be spent on the biggest levers first. Drop your thoughts in the comments on the moves we need to make.
