IPC welcomes its new communication Officer, Elisabetta Olgiati!!! Elisabetta will take over from Caroline Leroux, who will focus on events to to continue the excellent work carried out in recent years with formats and contents always stimulating and cutting-edge. By building on the work done in recent years, IPC plans to increase its role and the quality of its communication. Welcome, Elisabetta!

IPC is pleased to see the private sector leadership in addressing antimicrobial resistance via work through the TRANSFORM project, a USAID funded initiative in collaboration with Cargill and Heifer International. A recent workshop in India titled “Antimicrobial Use Stewardship – A Holistic Systems Approach” demonstrated the key role of the private sector in collaborating with governments for identifying roles and actions for real change. Two new entities in India joined 26 private sector organizations that have acted to support the IPC AM stewardship principles, reaching over 140 countries, and representing over 40% of global poultry meat production spanning all sectors of poultry production from fully integrated systems to small farms. The forthcoming UN High Level meeting on AMR should consider and learn from private sector actions, noting that each farm, species, and country needs to adapt to their specific situation. Political guidance should focus on framing laws, regulations, and guidance that are science-based respect risk analysis. Focus on avoiding the need for use, and responsible use when needed.

Exciting week for IPC at SIAVS - Salão Internacional de Proteína Animal 2024. Our Secretary General, Nicolò Cinotti, discussed together with Greg Tyler (USA Poultry & Egg Export Council), Madame Yu Lu (CCCNFA) and Luis Rua (ABPA - Associação Brasileira de Proteína Animal) over scenarios for the animal protein sector, deepening challenges and opportunities for our industry. Science and Trade Advisor, Dennis Erpelding, participated in the panel addressing the responsible use of antimicrobials, moderated by Leonardo Isolan and featuring also Tabatha Silvia Rosini Lacerda, Diego Menezes de Brito (MAPA) and Guilherme Costa (MAPA). Dennis higlighted the important role of international organizations, the need for following the science, and their role in providing guidance on a global path forward, bringing the success of the TRANSFORM project as an example. The show has been a great chance for our staff to catch up with members and friends over the most relevant topics of our industry. What an exciting and productive week in Paris for World Organisation for Animal Health's 91st General Session and to celebrate 100 years of WOAH! Congratulations again to new DG Emmanuelle Soubeyran and our sincere thanks to Dr Monique Eloit for her leadership over the last eight years. Led by Ricardo Santin, Richard Griffiths, Birthe Steenberg and Nicolò Cinotti, the International Poultry Council team held a series of meetings with key stakeholders to maintain poultry's position at the top of the agenda. Special thanks to IPC members in attendance and to all guests attending the IPC dinner, including WOAH's delegates from Cameroon, Uganda and Turkey. Exciting news from Paris as Emmanuelle Soubeyran is elected World Organisation for Animal Health Director General at the 91st General Assembly! On behalf of the whole International Poultry Council community, Ricardo Santin, Richard Griffiths and Nicolò Cinotti wish to offer their sincere congratulations to Dr Soubeyran for a well-deserved appointment. Over the next five years, we will strengthen the collaboration between the global poultry sector and WOAH under her leadership and help shape the future of animal health. With avian influenza and antimicrobial resistance at the top of the agenda, we must work hand-in-hand to identify effective solutions to prevent and mitigate the impact of zoonoses across the world. Our sincere thanks to Dr Monique Eloit for 8 years of productive cooperation and congratulations to Luis Barcos for a race well-run.
