🌟 Milestone Achieved: 10,000 Reads on ResearchGate! 🌟 I started BS/DO in 2019, and I wanted to get in the habit of balancing my work (being a full-time student, part-time tutor) with research. In my point of view, research should be a lifelong friend to a physician regardless of what speciality or work setting they end up in. Research makes you take time out of your day for it; it answers those questions you foster inside you; it chats with you about your inner curiosities; to me, this sounds like a pal. Starting in 2020, I entered the world of scientific exploration with a simple goal: to contribute meaningful research that could make a difference. I did not have funding. I had ideas, ideas worth living for. I followed the simple rule of cold emails asking for collaboration opportunities. God was gracious enough to have me meet with people who had the best intentions. They say the first is always tough; it was. I was a 19-year-old who didn’t know the etiquettes of writing a publication, submitting to a journal, or any tidbits of medical literature. This is where my pal Research had the first contribution to my life—it made me read other people’s research. A lot of them. Combinging what I was learning in school, the basics I was tutoring others, with what I was reading, the first child was born. One research lead to the other, and, brick by brick, numerous research fellowships followed. I also started my volunteer work for International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS) during these primitive years. Most of what I know about the inner world of journals and academic publications actually derive from training and working as a Student Editor for this journal I wholeheartedly believe in; there are many predatory journals out there who wants your money, but, in contrast, our journal doesn’t want a penny from you as long as you show us scholarly spirit in your work and words. Fast forward to 2025, and I am humbled to see my 22+ journal and miscellaneous publications collectively surpass 10,000 reads and gain 67 citations (and counting). From my first publication as an undergraduate researcher to my work as a medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, every step has been a reminder of the power of persistence, collaboration, and a commitment to lifelong learning. I owe this achievement to incredible mentors, collaborators, and peers who’ve supported me along the way. This is just the beginning. May God bless me with the strength on continuing the pursuit of impactful research, creating solutions for pressing medical challenges, and inspiring the next generation of physician-researchers. Thank you to everyone who has read, cited, or engaged with my work. Your support drives me forward. 🚀. #AcademicMilestone #ResearchGate #MedicalResearch #AddictionScience #DO #MD #MBBS #Medicine #Surgery #Osteopathic #Medical #LifelongLearning #Gratitude #ResearchMatters #Research with #Purpose.
