Indeed sued and LinkedIn fined | ep85 Another week, another fine...and another lawsuit. Cohosts Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds) and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site get together for a little one-on-one episode to talk about some newsworthy legal matters impacting the two biggest players in our industry. First, we talk a little about Indeed being sued for patent infringement. Whether the lawsuit has merits or not is unknown at this point, but neither Peter nor Steven seemed to feel that it worthy of getting worked up about. Pun intended. More interestingly, Ireland fined LinkedIn for ad-related privacy violations and it appears likely that Microsoft, the parent of LinkedIn, not only expected the fine but set aside more money to pay for it than needed and has already pledged to do what is needed in order to be compliant. With 190 privacy laws globally, it wasn't all that surprising to your cohorts that a global player like LinkedIn got its hand caught in the cookie jar.

How AI is changing targeting and engaging with candidates | ep84 Depending on whom you talk with, artificial intelligence is either the best thing for the job board industry since sliced bread or one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Today's guest, Yazad Dalal of Joveo, discusses AI differently. Yes, it is a game-changer for employers, talent acquisition vendors, and others. However, its impact isn't all that different from the impact of other technologies when they were new. Our regular cohost, Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds), is off today. Joining us as guest cohost is Julie Sowash, Executive Director of Disability Solutions and one of the new owners of the Job Board Doctor consultancy group. Our other regular cohost, Steven Rothberg of the College Recruiter job search site, also joins the conversation but seems focused on cranberry juice.

Breaking News: Layoffs and Lawsuits | ep83 The newly combined organization of Monster + CareerBuilder has apparently undergone a round of layoffs. Information is sketchy so far, but it appears that at least several people in sales- and partnership-related roles have lost their jobs. In other news, Indeed has sued ZipRecruiter after employees of ZipRecruiter apparently posted to LinkedIn and otherwise communicated with customers of Indeed information that may have been misleading. Indeed alleges that ZipRecruiter mischaracterized a recent change by Indeed that was designed to prevent employers from posting for free multiple versions of the same ad. Join Cohosts Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds) and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site for this breaking news episode to learn what we're learning in real-time.

Resurrecting a well-known brand: The rebirth of Jobster | ep82 This spring, in what felt like a Back to the Future moment for veterans of job boards, the Jobster.com brand was reborn. The original Jobster was founded in 2004 in Seattle, Washington, USA and led by Jason Goldberg. It raised $50 million, which was an eye-popping amount of money at the time. It attempted to combine the best of social media, which was in its infancy at the time, and job boards, which weren't much older. Within a couple of years, Jason departed, mass layoffs commenced, and the once darling became obscure. Cohost Peter M. Zollman of AIM Group (Marketplaces / Classifieds) is unavailable today but our other cohost, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site, is joined by Jeff Dickey-Chasins, formerly known as the Job Board Doctor, and who still does some consulting when he's not busy being retired. We ask our guest, Vincent Cruz, why his Dutch company acquired the Jobster brand, what is the business model, who they compete against, and what the future looks like.

Our regular cohost, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site, is joined by guest cohost, Jeff Dickey-Chasins (formerly the Job Board Doctor), as we discuss with Victor the pros and cons of resurrecting a brand as well known as Jobster, including what has worked and what would have done differently with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight.

Earlier today, our cohost, Steven Rothberg, hosted an informal, roundtable of job board leaders, analysts, and consultants via Zoom. This was the third of these calls, all of which were organized through the Slack channel hosted by Job Boards Connect. Our 4th roundtable will be four weeks from today on Thursday, October 24th. Our topic will be whether to take backfill feeds of jobs from other job boards and, if so, how best to manage them. Want an invite? Email [email protected].

CEO Christian Forman is being replaced at the end of the year by Chief Operating Officer Matt Molinari. Other changes to leadership are, so far, unconfirmed but may include Chris Cummins departing as Chief Revenue Officer at the same time.

Dispelling the myths: How job seekers are actually using AI | ep81 Tom Wood of The Hub is our guest today to help us separate fact from fiction: are job seekers actually using AI to apply to a massive number of jobs, or is that mostly urban legend? Hint: the truth is somewhere in between those two extremes. Cohost Peter M. Zollman of the AIM Group was unable to join us for today's episode and so Tom spoke with our other cohost, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter. Together, they dig into the massive changes to the job market over the past handful of years, how that affects candidate behavior, and how easy apply, AI, and other technologies are fueling even more change. Tom and Steven conclude by looking out a couple of years. What changes would Tom like to see to how job boards, recruitment marketplaces, and others operate?
