You can tell it has been a busy year-to-date: we are finally, formally, announcing our two spring hires: Paula Ramos Martínez and Supriya Kelkar, LEED ND, AICP. Paula joined us in early March (!) and immediately plunged into our Form-Based Codes for Brockton (led by Rob May, CEcD (he/him)), and Pittsfield (led by Justine Dodds and with our colleagues Rami el Samahy and Foteini Bouliari at OverUnder). Supriya joined us at the very end of April. She collaborated with Madge Pate on our RFP for a hotel in Athol (with Shaun Suhoski, Eric Smith, and Ben Murphy at MassDevelopment. Supriya also took charge of our three projects for the #MassachusettsDowntownInitiative with Emmy Hahn for Athol (with Eric Smith), Ashburnham (with Rebecca Merrell), and Framingham (with Rick McKenna and Reyad Shah). We are so excited to have Paula and Supriya on our team! They have already contributed so much to our team and projects, and we can't wait to see what they do next.

See my post below - thrilled to be celebrating the third anniversary of opening our doors!

Planner, designer, and teacher providing spaces for people to engage.

Three years ago, on the Monday before Christmas, I pushed open the door of Innes Associates, welcoming clients and colleagues to a collaborative process of helping communities with conversations around how better uses of land lead to stronger, more resilient communities. Three years later, I am so happy to showcase that the "I" is a "we" - and I couldn't have done it without those amazing clients and colleagues. Innes Associates is now five people plus our partners: clients and colleagues from other firms. Thank you so much to all who have been a part of the journey so far and we can't wait to see what the next three years bring! If you haven't already, please check out our new website at https://lnkd.in/ekmFESAM and have a wonderful holiday season!

See my post below on the release of the Massachusetts Farmland Action Plan 2023-2050 and small role I had in Appendix D!

Planner, designer, and teacher providing spaces for people to engage.

I presented at the Western Citizen Planner Training Collaborative on Saturday (all about comp plans). Thank you Maren Toohill for asking me, and Elaine Wijnja for organizing everything! Terrific questions from those who attended the session. The keynote speaker was Anne Gobi, the new Director of Rural Affairs. She announced that the Massachusetts Farmland Action Plan 2023-2050 would be released today. (I've been waiting for this one for a while...) Here it is: https://lnkd.in/e7baebVp. I am super excited because as I was skimming though the document, I saw the Harvard MVP report I put together while I was still at Harriman (page 188). This is one of the first - if not the first - studies in Massachusetts of how municipal government can help farmers address their vulnerabilities to climate change and was a product of the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program sponsored by the Massachusetts EEA. My collaborators included Daniel Cooley from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst; my former colleagues at Harriman - Katie Moore, AICP, LEED AP ND and Lily Perkins-High; and Christopher J. Ryan, Ph.D., AICP, who was the Town Planner in Harvard during this process. And of course the Harvard community! - and especially the farmers who were willing to talk about their needs and concerns (and Steven Cecil FAIA ASLA for facilitating access to those one-on-one conversations). Some of it may be out-of-date now - we continue to learn more about the impacts of climate change on all areas of our lives. I think much of it is still useful to communities trying to preserve, support, and enhance agriculture. If you find it useful, or if you have new information about strategies, please let me know! And please also check out the Farmland Action Plan.
