This is my favorite type of non-profit event. Last week I saw the most talented group of high school students show off their art at UCLA. They are all a part of the Work of Art program at Inner-City Arts. This is a year-long paid internship where students are given the opportunity to learn alongside teaching artists. They get practice in developing their idea, executing, and talking about the pieces. Many are going on to art school. Here's why I love this type of event: 👏 It intersects directly with the program giving folks an opportunity to interact with the students and teachers. 👏 It's very easy to invite people to (a window of time to drop in, low commitment on spending much time there, and it's something they don't see every day). 👏 There are many opportunities to ask questions, which staff know is one of the first steps for a stranger to become a supporter. Congrats to Shelby Williams-González and the team for a special event! Pictured here: me with a student over her interactive piece using plaster, decoupage, and food from the Philippines.
