As we honor the contributions of workers across the nation this Labor Day, let's take a moment to recognize the incredible strides women have made in the workforce. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce: 👩💻79 million women are participating in the labor force, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers by almost 2 million. 👩🎓 Women make up 50.7% of the college-educated workforce, officially outpacing men. 👩⚕️Women are now studying medicine at higher numbers than men, making up more than 55% of students in the country’s M.D. granting programs. 👩💼 Women are setting new records in leadership, filling more Fortune 500 positions than ever before. These achievements are a testament to the impact women have on the workforce. While there’s always more progress to be made, these milestones remind us that together, we're not just working, we're thriving. #WomensEqualityDay has been celebrated on August 26 every year since 1971. This day reminds us of the continued advocacy needed to achieve equality for women everywhere, and it recognizes the women from generations past who advocated for the rights we enjoy today. It was on this date, 102 years ago in 1920, that the Nineteenth Amendment granting women suffrage in the United States was certified, following the Amendment's ratification on August 18, 1920 – 42 years after first being introduced in Congress in 1878. But the fight for women’s equality didn’t end with the certification of the Nineteenth Amendment; Women’s Equality Day is a reminder of all the work yet to be done. Fifty years after the Nineteenth Amendment was certified, the National Organization for Women organized the Women’s Strike for Equality March in New York to continue to push for equal rights for women. The protest drew as many as 50,000 people - the largest on behalf of women at the time. Now, in 2024, we carry on with the mission to achieve gender equality in work, pay, and other facets of our lives. Let’s continue to champion gender equality with the same spirit and tenacity of the women who came before us. We may not always love hearing it, but feedback is a pillar of growth. According to Gallup, receiving regular constructive feedback from a trusted source is an effective way to improve your skills and advance in your career. Gallup shares that employees are 3.6 times more likely to be motivated to do outstanding work when their manager provides regular feedback. Additionally, 80% of employees that receive meaningful feedback are fully engaged in their work. Ultimately, feedback has the power to make you feel energized to be your best. When receiving feedback, listen actively and take notes. This will allow you to reflect on it later and keep it in mind as you move forward. Growth starts with listening. Make it a habit, and watch it propel you to new heights in your career!
