Yesterday, the Indigenous Prosperity Foundation (IPF) proudly joined NACCA and government leaders to advance Indigenous prosperity with the launch of the Money Smarts: My Financial Journey board game! 🎉 This game goes beyond entertainment—it's a powerful tool designed to equip Indigenous youth with essential financial literacy skills, helping them navigate their financial journeys with confidence. Developed collaboratively by NACCA, Victoria LaBillois, MBA, Affordance Studio, Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), lead Indigenous artist Brandon Mitchell, and financial literacy experts, Money Smarts integrates Indigenous values, fostering shared wealth and collective success. Today, also known as Orange Shirt Day, we honour the survivors and remember the children who never returned home. At the Indigenous Prosperity Foundation (IPF), we believe that reconciliation is about more than reflection—it’s about action. On Monday, September 30, we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR), a day to honour the survivors of Residential Schools and acknowledge the intergenerational impacts these schools have had on their families and communities. This day is also known as Orange Shirt Day, commemorating Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her orange shirt taken away on her first day at a Residential School in 1973. The day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission Residential School Commemoration Project, which seeks to raise awareness of the ongoing trauma caused by Residential Schools. Wearing orange symbolizes the loss, resilience, and ongoing journey of healing for Indigenous peoples across Canada. Together, the Indigenous Prosperity Foundation (IPF) and Pow Wow Pitch are taking meaningful action. We partnered to distribute Orange shirts designed by Morning Star Designs, Money Smarts board games, and IPF resources to Indigenous businesses and organizations in Siksika, Membertou, and Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nations. This partnership supports the journey and pathway to prosperity through economic empowerment, education, and wearing orange on September 30th. We're thrilled to announce the continuation of our  #WalkTogether initiative—a dedicated effort to listen and learn how IPF can best support Indigenous women, youth, and early-stage entrepreneurs. This year, we're embarking on a journey to discover pathways to Indigenous prosperity alongside Indigenous Financial Institutions (IFIs), economic development organizations, and underserved Indigenous entrepreneurs. Our recent visit to Membertou First Nation in Nova Scotia was a transformative experience. Hosted by Eileen Paul, Manager of the Membertou Entrepreneurship Centre, we explored Membertou's innovative support for Indigenous entrepreneurs. Key insights and actionable recommendations emerged: 1️⃣ Afterschool and Offsite Youth Programming: Enhanced accessibility through transport services for youth to attend entrepreneurial training sessions after school ensures broader participation. Comprehensive workshops in financial literacy, business strategy, and practical skills prepare young entrepreneurs for future challenges. 2️⃣ Development of an Entrepreneur Hub: Creating a hub with shared workspaces can support small businesses that do not require full storefronts but need dedicated space to operate. On-demand training and support tailored to the needs of early-stage entrepreneurs can help them navigate initial challenges and grow their businesses. 3️⃣ Systematic Operations and ISO Certification: Membertou’s Entrepreneur Center’s ISO certification enhances its credibility and attracts business partnerships, reflecting its commitment to high standards and systematic management. These insights are instrumental in shaping IPF's approach to supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs. IPF is committed to empowering Indigenous entrepreneurs, fostering economic prosperity, and preserving cultural heritage by fostering genuine connections and understanding the community's specific needs.
