The Northern Illinois University CTE Project team, in collaboration with ISBE, has created professional development that addresses the needs of new Career and Technical Education educators across the state of Illinois. These sessions are appropriate for any CTE teacher, regardless of endorsement or licensure type. These opportunities are free, and attendees will receive one professional development hour per session. New teachers do not need to attend all sessions to benefit from the content provided in these sessions; however, the next two in the series are virtual and address using various forms of assessments within the CTE classroom environment. Part 1 - Helping Students Learn: Using Various Forms of Assessment in CTE is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. Part 2 Helping Students Learn: Using Various Forms of Assessment in CTE is Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m.

Kudos to our 2023 Illinois Teacher of the Year Briana Morales for being selected to join the Lead for Learners Network Steering committee with KnowledgeWorks https://okt.to/n5GzYE. Through a two-year term, the 2024-26 cohort will serve alongside continuing members of the 2023-25 cohort to advance the following priorities: * Leadership Development & Learning: Design programs and resources that support current and emerging leaders in personalized, competency-based systems and fill gaps in current education leadership preparation programs * Network Development & Sustainability: Grow and sustain a national professional learning community focused on leading in personalized, competency-based systems * Advocacy: Collectively advocate for more equitable, student-centered education systems Briana is excited about the chance to work with other educators and leaders on one of her favorite causes -- competency-based education -- and visit high-quality CBE schools, such as Colorado STEM Academy in Westminster Public Schools and Nashville Big Picture High School in Metro Nashville Public Schools. She plans to then bring this learning back to Illinois to continue doing great work that moves students forward.
