  • We had an amazing few days at the Healthcare Design Conference + Expo! One highlight we want to share is the IIDA Panel - Beating Healthcare Burnout: Harnessing Design for Staff Health and Well-Being. It was standing room only for this incredible conversation about designing for healthcare staff and care teams that are elemental to the healing and function of built spaces for healthcare and well-being. A few takeaways from our discussion were - Considering sensory experiences like acoustics and lighting that affect care staff's stress, focus, and performance - all the way to collaborative, creative . - Creating full-scale mockups produce increased "ah ha" moments for management as to why and how recommendations of a design and materials plan - Leaning into the negotiation with clients when it comes to advocating for design direction from staff spaces, storage, productivity, and technology for better care outcomes Another way to summarize the wide-ranging conversation was by our always engaging moderator Abby Scott Scott, FIIDA, AIA Allied, Design Director, Interiors, HDR is "Great design can be silent." Ultimately nodding to the discussion's focus on the variety of details designers must consider for members of staff and care teams as they are key users of healthcare spaces that drive lasting outcomes for patients, their families, and the facilities' management/administration. Abby guided our expert panel ✨ Joan Albert – Regional Healthcare Director and Principal, Page Southerland Page ✨ Erica Irvin – Chief of Design Services, Apogee Consulting Group ✨ Jolene Mudri, MBA, IIDA, NCIDQ LEED AP, IIDA – Senior Project Manager, Perkins&Will ✨ Lucy Williams – Regional Practice Director, Interiors, Principal, HKS A HUGE thanks to our perennial session sponsor Rockfon for supporting this fascinating topic and hard-hitting discussion.
