The Idaho Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization and veterinary charity in the state.

About us

The Idaho Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization and veterinary charity in the state. We are a private 501(c)3 organization that relies on donations to provide programs and services that benefit animals in Idaho. Mission The mission of the Idaho Humane Society is to advocate for the welfare and responsible care of animals, protect them from neglect and cruelty, and promote humane education, awareness, and compassion. We believe that because domestic animals are a product of human intervention, we have a special obligation to them in regard to humane treatment and responsible stewardship. Vision The Idaho Humane Society will continue to grow and meet the demand to shelter, feed, provide medical attention to, and find adoptive homes for abandoned and abused animals in our community; to educate Idahoans about the proper care of their own pets; to prevent animal overpopulation; and to promote kindness to animals. We envision a humane Idaho in which healthy and adoptable animals are no longer euthanized, and both domestic animals and wildlife are treated with compassion and respect.

Imagine what it would be like to go shopping if every dollar in your wallet could buy twice as much. That’s exactly what will happen today when your generous gift is DOUBLED to provide even more food, medicine, and lifesaving care for homeless animals now through September 6th. We’ll put your generosity to work to help an animal like Leonidas. This poor little guy must’ve been in so much pain when he arrived at our shelter. He arrived with a host of health issues that needed our immediate attention, suffering puncture wounds to his abdomen and a broken pelvis in a traumatic accident. Our team worked tirelessly, performing orthopedic surgery to mend his leg and repair his hernias while he was on the operating table. To ensure his pelvis could heal properly, we placed him in foster care, where he received much-needed TLC. Despite his pain, he showed incredible resilience. Once he recovered, we addressed his severe dental disease, removing 13 teeth and cleaning the remaining ones. We could provide the urgent care Leonidas needed to get better — and a safe space for him to rest and heal — thanks in part to friends like you. And we’re happy to report that, after all the hardship, Leonidas is now living his best, healthiest life with a family that cherishes him! This story is a perfect example of what we can do — together — when you give. Please donate today where your donation will be MATCHED to save lives. https://lnkd.in/g-e_DZ3c

We couldn't rehabilitate and prepare for adoption all the cats and kittens we do without our tremendous WISKR program. The Women Inmate Social Kitty Retreat (WISKR) program brings sick cats and young kittens into a tier of the South Boise Women’s Correctional Center for round-the-clock care. WISKR participants have assisted with various cases, but they most frequently work with cats recovering from upper respiratory infections, mother cats and their babies, and orphaned kittens that need bottle feeding. This is particularly important during the spring and summer seasons when the Idaho Humane Society can easily see more than 100 cats come through its doors in one week. Please donate today and help us save more furry felines – your donation moves us one step closer to winning Idaho Gives contest for the most unique donors! https://lnkd.in/e_7iFSHw #IdahoGives

Our governing board — so inspired by friends like you — stepped up in a big way. For a limited time, they will match every dollar you give, up to $17,565. That means your gift will double to save TWICE as many lives. But you only have until the match deadline — May 3, 2024. So please, don’t wait to give. You could miss this chance to make an even bigger difference in the Treasure Valley. Your gifts are why animals like Peggy are alive today. Upon arrival, she was little more than a skeleton of a dog urgently in need of veterinary care. Our diagnostic tests revealed Peggy was coping with painful femur fractures and severe undernourishment, as well as being infected with a disease called Valley Fever. We provided a treatment plan to stabilize and heal her in her foster home until she was strong enough to undergo surgery to repair her femurs. She has since recovered and found a loving forever home where she is treasured. I know these stories can be hard to learn about and even overwhelming sometimes. That’s why it’s so important to be part of campaigns like this one — when every dollar goes twice as far to save lives. So please give today, and know you’re providing TWO TIMES the love, medical care, and second chances. https://lnkd.in/e_7iFSHw #IdahoGives

From the forgotten corners of underserved communities, these furry friends find their way to us, seeking a second chance, a new beginning. But they're not alone. With not one, but two hospitals under our nonprofit umbrella, we have the power to heal, to nurture, and to transform their lives. But there are still countless more waiting for their chance, their opportunity to experience love and kindness. Will you join us in writing their stories of hope? Your donation can be the turning point for an animal in need. Every dollar counts, and every act of generosity echoes with gratitude from those who cannot speak. Today, we're kicking off Idaho Gives! This fundraising extravaganza takes place April 29-May 2, where nonprofits in Idaho compete in various challenges based on donations. This is important work we endeavor to do each day, and it would be impossible without the support of this incredible community. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/e_7iFSHw #IdahoGives TIP: You can also sign up as a fundraiser for IHS during Idaho Gives to encourage others to donate on social media and email. Simply visit Idaho Gives and click the 'fundraise' tab.

We'd like you to meet Taquito, a feline whose life was transformed thanks to generous donors like you. When she came to us, it was clear that this scrappy little kitten had survived so much in the three months before she arrived. Taquito had a fractured leg and needed immediate medical care to ensure the bone healed correctly. She received surgery and was placed in foster care to heal and recover. There, her foster parent fell in love and decided to adopt her. Now, Taquito is healthy and happy, and will know only comfort and love, thanks to friends like you. None of this work would be possible without your compassion ... and your generous action. Please consider providing a tax-deductible donation to give second chances to pets in need. https://bit.ly/IHSdonate

Many of you are aware that we have pivoted our aluminum recycling program. We have already received checks from the amazing Pacific Steel & Recycling from our supporters bringing their aluminum cans in for recycling. We recently stopped by for a tour and learned there are so MANY items that can be recycled, providing a few cents to several dollars per pound. Every penny counts, and every item diverted from the landfill makes a big impact. There are two locations in the Treasure Valley, but supporters can ask for funds to be donated to the Idaho Humane Society from any of their locations in the Northwest Region, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, N and S Dakota and more! It's easy to give back; let them know you'd like the cans to benefit the Idaho Humane Society! 5120 W Emerald St, Boise, ID 83706 2515 E. Comstock Avenue, Nampa, ID 83687 All aluminum DRINKING cans MUST be separated from food and other types of aluminum since they pay a substantially higher amount (the going rate is 40 cents/lb vs 3.5 cents/lb). A great big thank you to Pacific Steel & Recycling, and all our supporters who give back to support our homeless pets.

Everest is a true survivor. At just four weeks old, he faced unimaginable trauma, sustaining ruptured eyes and damage to his face and tongue. He was also diagnosed with a virus called panleukopenia, which can be fatal. Once strong enough for surgery, our veterinarians removed his eyes so he could live a pain-free life, but suddenly, his heart stopped beating. Our incredible team performed CPR and saved his life. Once again, he didn’t give up. We’re happy to report that his spirit is indomitable, and he’s found his forever home full of love. Your donations make this work possible. And that matters so much because when times are tough for people, our community’s animals can suffer, too. More families rely on our supportive programs. More pets are surrendered. And rising costs of supplies, medicine, utilities, and gasoline stretch our budget, making it even harder to power our lifesaving work. With so much at stake, we need your continued support of our mission. Please consider providing a tax-deductible donation to give second chances to pets like Everest: http://bit.ly/IHSdonate
