In just six months, TikTok Shop climbed from the 22nd largest online beauty retailer in the U.S. to the 9th with just under $400 million in health and beauty sales. A year out from its U.S. debut, and with a potential ban looming next year, I asked 11 brand founders and consultants if they thought the TikTok Shop craze would last with beauty brands and consumers. Today I am expanding on my decades long experience, career trajectory and my pillars of community, mentorship, education and capital with my new appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Carmell Corporation (Nasdaq: CTCX). I look forward to her leadership in building Carmell into a leading platform for innovative brands in the beauty and wellness space.” Since its business combination in July 2023, under the leadership of Rajiv Shukla, Executive Chairman, Carmell Corporation has completed a pivot towards skincare, recruited a top-tier Scientific Advisory Board, developed and tested 12 skincare products aimed at retail and medspa use, scaled up in-house manufacturing and packaging, built an D2C customer channel integrated with a finance enterprise resource planning and logistics backbone, lowered cash burn by more than 50%, raised $3 million from external investors and commenced commercial sales. On Friday in New York City I had the opportunity to meet the new cohort of founders in the Andreessen Horowitz TxO initiative and witness the magic of Kofi Ampadu and his team at a16z. It was an honor to be chosen to attend the annual The Business of Fashion's second annual #BoFGlobalBeautyForum surrounded by friends new and old. It’s a rare industry conference that is equal parts education, networking and self care. From pilates, breath work and (a Deepak Chopra MD (official)-led) meditation - oh my - it’s a reminder that as entrepreneurs, founders and leaders, when we take better care of ourselves we show up better for others. I am in awe of Imran Amed, Priya Rao and the hardworking team at BoF for delivering a memorable experience I won’t soon forget.
