"When we empower women and girls, we nourish the world." - WANDA

About us

WANDA is on a mission to lead a movement of a new crop of food sheroes from farm to health. By 2030 WANDA's goal is to touch the lives of 1 million women and girls to educate, advocate and innovate for a better life, community and food system in Africa and the Diaspora. In 2016 WANDA launched in Washington, DC and Abuja, Nigeria to build a pipeline and platform of women and girls as drivers of change in their community through food, agriculture and nutrition. Launched at the U.S. Library of Congress, the girl empowerment book series entitled “Where’s WANDA? features Little WANDA, a first-ever black girl main character who uses her 'magic' apron to travel to Africa learning of the health and beauty of African heritage foods, female farmers and culture throughout Africa. Each book highlights a real Big and Little WANDA and encourages girls to share their WANDA story. Named as the 2016 "Champion” for Children’s Wellbeing Initiative by ASHOKA and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the “Where’s Wanda?” series is inspiring girls from Africa to America to lead in becoming food sheroes in their community. With your support we can make a bigger, better impact in the lives of women and girls. Learn more at iamwanda.org or email [email protected].

  • 💡Did You Know?💡 Over 23 million Americans live in food deserts, where fresh, affordable, and healthy food options are hard to find. 🥦🍎 Instead, these areas are often filled with fast food joints and lack access to supermarkets or grocery stores. Food deserts disproportionately impact low-income communities and communities of color, contributing to health disparities and limiting choices. We need to work together to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food, no matter where they live. 💪🏾✨ #FoodJustice #EndFoodDeserts #HealthyCommunities #FoodAccessForAll #TastyTruthThursday

  • 🌿 Celebrating Leadership in Agriculture 🌿 At WANDA (Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics and Agriculture), we recognize that leadership in agriculture is key to addressing the challenges facing our food system. This recent article from Investigate Midwest highlights America's 50 Agriculture Commissioners, the individuals shaping the future of our nation's food and farming industries. As we continue our mission to empower Black women and girls to lead in agriculture, food systems, and nutrition, we know that representation in leadership positions matters more than ever. Whether advocating for policies that prioritize sustainable practices, supporting local farmers, or addressing food insecurity, these leaders play a pivotal role in shaping food policy across the U.S. 🌱 What Does This Mean for Us? WANDA’s vision is to uplift diverse voices in agriculture—especially the voices of Black women and girls—to ensure that food justice and food security are accessible for all. We must continue to educate, organize, and empower those who want to make an impact from farm to fork. 💪🏽 Join Us By working together, we can support a more equitable food system. • 🚨 We have a food democracy to save! 🚨 Our current food system often leaves the most vulnerable behind, prioritizing profit over people and the planet. But it doesn't have to be this way. We have the power to create a fairer, more equitable system where every person has access to fresh, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food. Imagine a world where local farmers and producers thrive, where communities have a say in how food is grown and distributed, and where every child, adult, and elder can enjoy healthy meals without worry. This isn't just a dream—it's a vision we can work toward together. Now is the time to stand up and make our voices heard. Demand transparency, fairness, and justice in our food policies. Support local initiatives, learn about the food injustices in your community, and advocate for change. Each small step we take brings us closer to a truly democratic food system. Will you join us in this fight? Share this post, get involved, and let's build a future where everyone’s plate is full! #SaveFoodDemocracy #FoodJusticeForAll #CommunityPower #StandUpForFood
