We are excited to introduce Julie Tice, RN, as the new director of our Progressive Surgery Unit III. 💚 Julie has more than 17 years of experience as a professional caregiver and nurse manager at Huntsville Hospital, Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, and Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield. During the pandemic, she worked as a contract nurse in Idaho. A native of Hamilton, Alabama, Julie earned her nursing degree from Wallace State. In her spare time, she enjoys travel and spending time with her grandchildren. Please help us congratulate Julie on her promotion! 👏

If you were at Huntsville Hospital earlier today, you probably smelled some enticing aromas coming from the Cafeteria.👃 Our talented Sous Chef Lorena Cordero Vazquez 👩🍳 and her team spent all morning preparing an authentic Hispanic Heritage Month feast of chicken enchiladas verde 🐔, loma saltado (Peruvian beef with rice) 🐮, elote (Mexican street corn) 🌽, charro beans 🫘, roasted asparagus with Tajin and Cotija cheese, and fresh churros rolled in cinnamon sugar. Lorena grew up in the Chihuahua region of Northern Mexico and learned to cook from her mother. Muy delicioso! 😋

Class participants gathered for a special food (🥗🥬) demonstration to celebrate one year of diabetes prevention learning✨ Our Diabetes Control Center (DCC) offers year-long weekly courses to help individuals manage pre-diabetes and prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. Class members learn from HH staff—and each other—on ways to incorporate better choices into their diet and take charge of their health. “They’re all very encouraging and thorough. I couldn’t do this without them. It encourages accountability to meet with them weekly,” says one class participant. We are excited to recognize Neonatal ICU (NICU) nurse Jayda Shafer with our highest nursing honor: the DAISY Award. 💮 "To know her is to love her and be won over by her," says one patient under Jayda's care. "She held my hand while I received bad news and we jumped for joy together when good news came. She became more than our nurse, she is our family. We will never forget her."
