Happy Halloweekend from Hudson Hospital & Clinic! Our campus was buzzing with witches, vampires, scarecrows and more. As you can see from the photos, everyone had a blast dressing up and sharing treats all day on Halloween. Today, we're wrapping up the spooky season with a pumpkin decorating contest. We hope you’ve had a safe and happy Halloween.

Plans for the new Lakeview Hospital campus in Stillwater are moving forward, and we're excited about what this means for western Wisconsin! This expansion will bring more specialists and essential care closer to home. Participants in a survey about the Lakeview Campus project stressed the importance of comfort and a welcoming environment when receiving care. They noted that they value: •Patient drop-off sites close to entrances •Comfortable and convenient seating areas •Easy to understand signage, open spaces and sustainable features Thank you to the 1,200 survey participants for your valuable input. At HealthPartners, we’re always looking for ways to end the stigma surrounding mental health and illnesses. By integrating new programs and attending community events, we aim to change attitudes about mental health and promote well-being for everyone. Our recent work to improve mental health care access includes: • We are incorporating a new rapid access model to provide short-term interventions, ensuring patients receive timely care. • We offer the Crisis Immediate Assessment program, which allows clinicians to request immediate support from a behavioral health consultant for patients experiencing a mental health crisis. • Participating in #NAMIWalks (pictured) to encourage open discussion of mental illness, raise money for future advocacy work and learn where our colleagues and community members find joy. Today is World Mental Health Day. Let’s Make It OK to talk about mental health and illnesses so everyone feels safe and empowered to get the support and care they deserve.

When it comes to community health, convenient options matter. At Hudson, mammogram appointments are available close to home and are only 30 minutes or less. We also offer walk-in and next-day appointments. We know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, but when caught early, 99% is treatable. We also know that life is busy, that’s why Dr. Loretta Pfannes, an Internal Medicine physician at Hudson Hospital & Clinic, shared her passion about the importance of mammograms while addressing some common concerns and misconceptions in a recent article published in the Star-Observer.

We’re so grateful for the happy moments our volunteers bring to our campus and community. That includes Winston (center). Winston is one of our day-brightening therapy dogs. If you’ve been to our hospital or clinic, there’s a chance you’ve met him. And if you’ve met Winston, then you’re only one step removed from this year’s U.S. Olympic gymnasts. Just weeks before the Paris Olympic Games, Winston was selected to spend time with athletes at the U.S. Gymnastics Trials in Minneapolis. Winston’s owner, Dennis Reynolds, also happens to be Hudson Hospital Foundation’s 2024 Volunteer of the Year. “One of the reasons Winston was allowed so close to the performance mats is because I could guarantee he wouldn’t chase any of the athletes or their equipment,” Dennis says. “Several times, an athlete or coach motioned for Winston to come over so they could pet him while on the floor mats during their warmups to help reduce anxiety.” Many of our patients and colleagues can now say they’ve worked with the same therapy dog as gold medal-winning Olympians! How cool is that?

A cancer diagnosis is frightening for everyone, no matter who you are or where you're from. As a HealthPartners oncologist and medical director of the Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin, Dr. Steven McCormack understands a long commute for care only adds to the stress. In a recent interview with the Star-Observer, Dr. McCormack discussed the top-notch cancer care services and clinical trials available to people living in western Wisconsin. “If I see a patient in St. Paul and they live closer to one of our Wisconsin sites, I have no hesitation to recommend they go there,” Dr. McCormack says. “There’s really nothing treatment-wise from a cancer perspective that we can’t give at our Wisconsin locations.” Read more in the Star Observer: https://bit.ly/4dHtoVc
