👋 Meet Alex Walker (He/Him), an Executive Fellow with our Equity and Government Transformation division, serving on the Community Assistance for Climate Equity Program (CACE) team! As an SGC Executive Fellow, Alex leads and supports philanthropic and state funded projects providing capacity building services to help under-resourced communities access critical funding opportunities and resources. Alex grew up in the rural Central Valley, in Kings County. He attended his local community college, Lemoore College, before transferring to California State University, Fresno, where he earned his bachelor’s in political science, graduating with full honors and Summa Cum Laude status. As an Executive Fellow, Alex works closely with cabinet-level staff on various issues the state faces, earning experience in research, budgets, grant writing, and program administration. Prior to the Fellowship, Alex worked several jobs, such as a consultant, groundskeeper, professional forklift driver, after-school program coordinator, and within county government. Today, Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis issued a proclamation declaring April 10th, 2024, as Dolores Huerta Day. Dolores Huerta and César Chávez together established the National Farm Workers Association, precursor to the United Farm Workers, which organized farmworkers for better working conditions. The Human Rights Coalition of the Central Valley (HRCCV) was proud to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Saturday, December 9th. Fresno City College graciously hosted our event, with this year's theme being: LGBTQ+ Rights Are Human Rights 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️! We are thankful to all our panelists, partners; including California State University, Fresno and community members who supported this years event. Special thanks Fresno City Council for sharing a Proclamation declaring Saturday, December 9th, 2023 as "Human Rights Day" in the City of Fresno, and to Congressman Jim Costa for sharing a Special Congressional Recognition Certificate to us and our founder, Dr. Kapoor. HRCCV has been serving the Central Valley for over 12 years, and we are excited to continue advancing human rights everywhere, and become a more accessible organization.
