A new report from Quocirca shows that in the past year, 67% of organizations have experienced data losses due to unsecure printing practices, up from 61% in 2023. On average, print related data breaches can cost organizations over £1m, up from £743,000 in the past 12 months. Organizations need to ensure that the printing process is secure from beginning to end, whether it’s encrypting documents in transit, or only allowing authorized users to print documents. HP was proud to be a gold sponsor at this year’s BSides Bristol security conference. It was a jam-packed two-day event, featuring a host of fascinating talks and activities on everything from cybercrime takedowns, lock picking, and battle bots, to bug bounties and ICS security. During the event our team: - Talked to the local community about the HP Security Lab and our security research and innovation - Educated attendees about #HPWolfSecurity solutions - Encouraged applications to HP and Bristol #Securityjobs and internships - Contributed prizes to a charity raffle which raised over £3,000 for Bristol Autism Support The team had a great time, and we’re looking forward to next year's event! 📅 https://lnkd.in/ePHGB8qH

HP - Elevating Print Security for Zero Trust

Print security had been rising up the cybersecurity agenda. A new report from Quocirca shows that while public networks were seen as the top IT security risk (35%), the use of employee-owned home printers (33%) was a close second, rising from 21% in 2023. This rise reflects growing concerns around ‘shadow printing’, driven by increased home working and the use of printers outside corporate controls. This is why printer and MFP manufacturers continue to enhance and deepen their security focus, including HP. According to Quocirca, “HP has advanced its position because of ongoing innovation across its hardware portfolio and establishing a zero-trust print architecture (ZTPA) framework and stronger alignment of HP Wolf Security across its print and PC offerings.” Want to learn more? The rapid rise of remote and hybrid work has greatly increased the risks from, and vulnerabilities of, home and work print environments. To help companies reduce printer risk, HP has been implementing advanced technology to detect and respond to print security threats, starting with its zero-trust print architecture approach founded on unique device boot up protection, sleep mode and in-use continuous runtime threat monitoring with autonomous self-healing complementing document, content, and data security. This includes secure document management and identity access management, as well as robust hardware security. In this podcast, HP’s Principal of Print Strategy & Product Management, Steve Inch and Quocirca’s Louella Fernandes discuss HP’s print security strategy for simplicity, and how HP is educating consumers on the importance of print security. According to new HP Wolf Security research, organizations feel blind and unequipped to mitigate device supply chain threats like tampering. To reduce these risks, IT security teams need strong supply chain assurances from their vendors, and ways to verify the integrity of their endpoint fleets down to the hardware and firmware level. Find out more about the new research findings from HP Wolf Security and the 4 steps organizations can take to proactively manage device hardware and firmware security here: https://lnkd.in/g8ie-cTP #HPWolfSecurity #SupplyChainSecurity #Cybersecurity

Concern is growing over nation-state threat actors tampering with physical supply chains. These attacks are incredibly hard to detect, and with a foothold below the operating system, they are particularly difficult to remove and remediate in devices that didn’t have hardware and firmware protections built-in from the start. Organizations are concerned that they are not equipped to address them. Endpoint security depends on strong supply chain security, starting with the assurance that devices haven’t been tampered with.
