Housing First Minnesota is a trade association that is the leading voice for Minnesota’s homebuilders, remodelers, and companies with which they do business. Our modern and comprehensive advocacy program engages policymakers at the local and regional level. Housing First Minnesota also provides marketing through its highly successful Parade of Homes brand, education through Contractor University, and networking opportunities. Plus our charitable arm, the Housing First Minnesota Foundation, provides safe, durable, affordable housing for Minnesota's homeless, veterans, and others in need.

During the 2024 legislative session, the legislature, Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison worked to pass new sweeping law changes to the tests that determine independent contractor status within the construction industry. Housing First Minnesota worked successfully throughout session to improve the language from the introductory bill. Nevertheless, a new 14-factor test to assess independent contractor status in the construction industry will go into effect starting March 1, 2025.
