Her students have appeared in television shows; (The Haunting of Hill House, the Vampire Diaries, General Hospital, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, and more), feature films; (Black Widow, Insatiable, Tag, Bad Moms, Minute Man, Cherry, Snatched, My Blind Brother, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and commercials (Nike, McDonalds, Honda, Subway and Intel). HOW WE WILL HELP YOU Wondering what makes great actors so great? The secret is in their tried-and-true technique. A technique will separate you from your competition in the audition room and on set. At Houde School of Acting we specialize in the Meisner Technique. In addition to our classes on Meisner, we also offer Improv, Script Analysis, Self Tape Coaching, On Camera, Scene Study, and a variety of specialty workshops. Get yourself the training and confidence you need to separate yourself from the competition. THE PROCESS Step One: Attend classes and learn the Meisner Technique. We offer online and in-person Meisner classes here. Step Two: Obtain your own marketing materials; headshots, resume, clips and demo reel. We are affiliated with many professionals who can help you with your marketing materials. Step Three: Sign with an acting agency who will submit you for auditions. Many of our students are signed with agencies and managers and we can guide you in the right direction. Step Four: Audition frequently and use our training and technique to land roles! 🎬 When the great Gena Rowlands passed away at 94, she left behind a legacy marked by her fearless and dedicated approach to acting. The Academy Award-winning actress embraced challenging roles with palpable joy, even in her later years. What might seem intimidating to others was the kind of role she eagerly pursued. As she once said, “You don’t just live one life. You live many lives.” Her late husband, John Cassavetes, a pioneering director and Oscar-nominated actor, shared this belief in acting as an expression of creative joy. He taught acting workshops in the 50s and 60s that emphasized this approach. Cassavetes also understood the responsibility that came with joy and freedom in acting. He recounted how his Greek immigrant father, initially disapproving of his acting career choice, instead emphasized the immense responsibility of honestly conveying others' life experiences. Cassavetes found his creative soulmate in Gena Rowlands. He directed her in “A Woman Under the Influence,” where she played a woman unraveling mentally and emotionally, a role that earned her an Oscar nomination and is considered a tour de force. Rowlands continued to tackle demanding roles throughout her career: - In “Gloria,” she portrayed a faded showgirl menaced by a mobster, earning another Oscar nomination. - In Woody Allen’s “Another Woman,” she played a writer forced to confront her emotions. - The groundbreaking TV movie “An Early Frost” featured her as a mother facing her son’s AIDS. - And in “The Notebook,” she played an elderly woman with dementia, beloved by modern cinephiles. Let the examples of Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes inspire you. In our craft and business, you have to be able to say, ‘This is my job as an actor, and I am going to live it as fully as I can,’ and mean it with every fiber of your being.
