The UP-TO-ME technology has successfully produced renewable methanol, and it is now being transported to an active wastewater treatment plant. This is an exciting moment for the project as our technology will be optimised at an operational site, presenting its uncapped potential for the future. Globally over 90% of traded goods are transported by sea. These marine fuels release around 2,600 times more sulphur than road fuel. Sulphur in fuels releases sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere causing high air pollution, health risks and acid rain which can cause damage to water, soil, and biodiversity. The UP-TO-ME project is dedicated to reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere by the maritime industry.
