Home Base is a national nonprofit dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for Veterans of all eras, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen through world-class, direct clinical care, wellness, education and research – all at no cost to them – regardless of era of service, discharge status or geographical location. The program was founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and the Boston Red Sox.

Thank you to all who participated on Day Two of the inaugural Home Base Brain Health Summit – hosted from September 11-12, in recognition of the September 11 attacks. The second day was led by Mass General Brigham’s Military and Veterans Initiatives at the interface of performance and community. Highlights included discussions on human performance optimization, mental health strategies for Special Operations Forces and Veterans, collaborations with the Boston Bruins Alumni Association and Warrior For Life Fund and updates from Home Base on our Intensive Clinical Programs, brain health and substance use disorders. The day concluded with a focus on family, featuring communal coping among Military Families and the vital role of benevolent organizations in advancing operator wellness.

Thank you to all who participated on Day One of the inaugural Home Base Brain Health Summit – hosted from September 11-12, in recognition of the September 11 attacks. The first day highlighted the evolution of military medicine since 9/11, with a focus on traumatic brain injury evaluation, brain health and cognitive performance in Special Operations Forces (SOF) and Veterans. Discussions emphasized USSOCOM’s innovative brain health initiatives, the impact of invisible wounds on SOF personnel and emerging healthcare technologies like AI and digital health. The day concluded with insights into HealthSpan, resilience, early cancer detection and the connection between posttraumatic stress disorder, cardiovascular disease, toxic exposures and repeated blast brain injury in Service Members.

Congratulations to our first #RaceforHomeBase team to participate in the BMW Berlin Marathon, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last weekend and broke the world record for most finishers. Last week, Home Base and our executive director, Retired Brigadier General Jack Hammond, were presented with the New Englander of the Year Award at the New England Council's annual celebration. First presented 60 years ago, the award honors residents or natives of the New England states for their commitment and contributions in their fields of work, as well as their leadership and impact on the region’s quality of life and economy.
