We design the future.
About us
The fires of creativity and innovation don’t light themselves. It’s a single spark – one simple idea – that can shape a young mind, that inspires learning that goes beyond the classroom. You have a vision for education, and we see it, too. We'll provide the leadership and the roadmap to bring that vision to life. Founded in 1950, Hollis + Miller is an integrated architecture firm that’s not only fluent in the language of education but designs the future of learning environments. Public, private, K-12 and higher education, we serve as an extension of your team as we create custom, research-backed designs and solutions— delivered on schedule and on budget, and with the same personal passion you bring to the classroom every day. We’re listeners and collaborators, team-builders and project managers—working to elevate not only the school but the community as a whole. As educators, you nurture new ideas and ignite that spark in students every day; as designers, we’ll work with you to build the ideal space for that spark to grow.

We recently brought our offices together for our annual Firm Retreat. Over two days, we were able to connect with each other to laugh and learn, while also honing our design process to support clients in impactful ways. We're already looking forward to next year! #wedesignthefuture

We are thrilled to celebrate dirt moving on these exciting projects and are proud to work alongside some awesome partners! Can't wait to see these spaces come to life for the Lone Jack community, its students and its teachers!
As dirt turned, the Lone Jack community celebrated the groundbreaking of a new addition at the Lone Jack High School and Middle School Campus overlooking the stunning new turf field, which students are already enjoying this fall season. By supporting the April 2024 bond issue, the Lone Jack community made an important investment in the future of Lone Jack C-6 that will enhance opportunities for students to continue to thrive in academics, arts, and athletics for years to come! Community members, District staff, board members, and students joined project team members as we heard meaningful remarks from Superintendent Kathy Butler and Board of Education members, Becky Campbell - President, and Ashlea Owings - Vice-President. Newkirk Novak Construction Partners is proud to celebrate this milestone alongside Lone Jack C-6, Hollis + Miller Architects, and the rest of the team! #buildingwithnncp #allofus

In August, we held our annual Back to School Teacher Grant Giveaway to support teachers in their classrooms. We were blown away by this year's entries and are grateful to be able to share resources with much-deserving teachers across our communities. Congratulations to this year's winners and best of luck in the school year! #wedesignthefuture #HMAgivesback

We're happy to announce another successful year in our community garden! Our staff put their green thumbs to the test planting veggies and tending to them throughout the summer and we are proud to have harvested more than 110 pounds of fresh produce going directly to Harvesters—The Community Food Network – and the tomatoes are still going strong! #HMAgivesback #philanthropy #community

The expansion at Douglas County School District's Legacy Campus would bring new pathways and opportunities to students looking to get a head start on their careers as they develop skills to prepare them for the future. We are looking forward to what comes next for this building, which is an invaluable asset to the community.
On August 13, 2024, DCSD staff recommended funding options to the DCSD Board of Education. The Board is scheduled to vote on August 27, 2024. Should the Board vote to run a ballot measure, and should bond pass, the DCSD Legacy Campus would be expanding by 6 additional pathways, to include: Construction Trades, such as Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, etc. Additional pathways would include: Advanced Manufacturing, & Electric Vehicle/Hybrid Maintenance & Repair.
