Some passport applicants may require a referee to confirm their identity. If they have applied online from within the UK, their referee may also be able to provide the information needed entirely online. Here's how: Eligible individuals must be 18 or over, live in the UK, hold a current British passport, and have known the applicant for at least 2 years as a friend, neighbour, or colleague. They must work in, or be retired from a recognised profession, such as an accountant, teacher, or nurse. When applying for a passport online, customers will need a digital photo. They have two options for obtaining this photo: 1. Photo Booth: Customers can get a digital passport photo from a photo booth, which helps to ensure that the photo meets the required standards. The photo should be taken within the last month. Customers should choose the option to get a digital code with their photo, which they will enter during their online application to automatically upload it. 2. Own Device: Alternatively, customers can take a photo using their own device, such as a smartphone. They should ensure the photo adheres to the specific requirements. The photo must be clear, in focus, in colour, and unaltered by computer software. It should be taken against a plain and light-coloured background, with the customer facing forward, looking straight at the camera, and maintaining a neutral expression. There should be no shadows, and the face must be fully visible, and without any head coverings unless for religious or medical reasons. The digital photo must be at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, and the file size should be between 50KB and 10MB.
