Classical. Diverse. College Prep. Tuition-Free.

About us

Herron Classical Schools is a community of scholars that advances timeless ideas and content, builds a culture of respect and trust, and engages in an urban environment in order to prepare students to be world-class citizens. We are founded on the belief that a classical, liberal arts education, where students are steeped in great historical thought and invention, is the best preparation for a future life of leadership and service. We are structured around an art history timeline which emphasizes the classic art and literature of many cultures. Herron Classical Schools is a network of three tuition-free public charter schools, Herron High School, Herron-Riverside High School, and Herron Preparatory Academy. Within each of our schools, we envision a racially and socio-economically diverse student body.

🇿🇦 The adventure of a lifetime! Our high schoolers immersed themselves in South Africa's vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and diverse wildlife. 🦒🐘 While this country's spotted and striped inhabitants are beautiful, it's the social, political, and cultural lessons of South Africa that our scholars will carry with them forever.

Please join us in celebrating and welcoming Ms. Brela Akers to the Herron-Riverside High School family! As a college preparatory, classical liberal arts and sciences high school, our mission is to prepare students to be well-rounded citizens for the 21st century. Important to that mission is ensuring students have access to high-quality tools to prepare them for college and beyond. This year, we are excited to announce the launch of a robust College and Careers coaching program in partnership with Christel House International, an education non-profit. Through this partnership, students will have access to our very own college and career coach - Ms. Akers! Ms. Akers joins the Herron-Riverside family with years of experience supporting scholars in the city to achieve their goals in college and beyond. When reflecting about the new role, she shares, "I'm very excited to work alongside students and families to understand their future." As a part of her role, Ms. Akers will be responsible for connecting students to different college and career pathways. This ranges from traditional college visits to 21st century industry tours and job shadowing opportunities. What's more, students will layer in important life skills through college and career modules during Advisory. A sample of these modules include: ⭐ Financial literacy ⭐ Transitions to post-secondary education ⭐ Mentorships ⭐ Confidence building ⭐ Employability soft / hard skills And perhaps the best part of this partnership is that Ms. Akers and her team of college and career colleagues will stay in touch and lead programming with our students even after they graduate to help navigate life after high school. Herron-Riverside alumni will continue to be supported by this unique coaching program!

Our Herron Classical Schools teachers don't just clock out in June! HCS teachers Mr. Bear and Ms. Scroggins spent a week of their summers grading AP exams. Mr. Bear spent the week in Kansas City reading AP Pre-Calculus exams alongside hundreds of other educators, and Ms. Scroggins read for the AP English Literature exam in Salt Lake City. Millions of students across the country take AP exams each year (including MANY of our own scholars at HCS!) and it takes work from dedicated educators like Ms. Scroggins and Mr. Bear to help grade these exams over the summer. Herron Classical Schools teachers: High-level. Highly Qualified. Endlessly Dedicated.

Making college dreams a reality! 🎓 We are SO pleased to announce that Herron and Herron-Riverside High Schools have been added to the Indiana University Indianapolis seamless admissions program! The expansion builds off a groundbreaking pilot initiative that grants automatic admission to IPS seniors with a grade point average of at least 3.0. “Herron Classical Schools has been providing a free college-prep education to central Indiana students for almost two decades; here at Herron-Riverside High School, many of our graduates are the first person in their family to attend college,” said Emanuel Harper, Head of School at Herron-Riverside High School, part of the Herron Classical Schools network. “The Indiana University Indianapolis seamless admission program is a real benefit to our scholars and their families navigating the admissions process. We’re excited about the opportunities our students will have now that the program has been expanded to include Innovation Network high schools.” Read more at the link below! https://lnkd.in/ekikpB4u
