This Black History Month, Maine Community Foundation proudly shares the stories of local Black leaders who are making an impact in our communities. These extraordinary people are championing equity and building vibrant futures for those they serve. Today, MaineCF celebrates Amina Hassan, Founder and Executive Director of Her Safety Net. Her Safety Net is a caring and supportive place for women and girls, protecting women of all ages and backgrounds from gender-based violence. Amina shared that she is inspired by the strong women with whom she works. “Witnessing their resilience, determination, and courage is the source of my inspiration,” she said. Amina’s vision is to create a comprehensive and inclusive approach, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances, have equal access to the resources and support they need. This includes providing accessible information, services, and programs that cater to diverse needs of people in Maine. “Recognizing and respecting the unique cultural identities and experiences of different communities is essential in promoting equity,” she said. “I will strive to create a safe and inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes cultural sensitivity in all aspects of our work.” Her Safety Net was a 2023 BIPOC Fund grantee, and Amina was awarded an Investing in Leaders of Color (ILOC) grant in 2022. We are so grateful for the incredible work you lead, Amina: thank you for championing and supporting Maine women at Her Safety Net! 📷 Photo courtesy Amina Hassan. #maine #mainecommunityfoundation #mainecf #blackhistorymonth #hersafetynet #hsn #aminahassan #leadership
