Design that begins and ends with people.
About us
Helix is an integrated architecture and design firm that focuses on people instead of structures. We invigorate culture and transform business through a design process that begins and ends with the people who will live, work, or play in the places we create. In other words, our designs are always created to serve others, not ourselves. That’s why we strive to connect people with space in imaginative, stimulating, and rewarding ways. The way we see it, great architecture and design can transform people. People can transform the world. Our mission is to be a catalyst for that.

Helix believes that we all can be catalysts for positive change by serving our communities and our profession. We are thrilled to share that two Helixers were recently named to leadership positions within IIDA Mid-America and AIA Kansas City. Interior Designer Sofia Acosta, NCIDQ Acosta was named President-Elect of IIDA Mid-America Chapter, and Project Architect / Project Manager Tanvi Sanghvi, AIA Sanghvi was accepted in this year’s AIA Kansas City Pillars Leadership Program. Join Helix Director of Interior Design Alissa Wehmueller, IIDA, WELL AP this afternoon for an exploration of how the use of color can impact users' health and wellbeing. As the lead interior designer of the award-winning Barbara Marshall Residence Hall at the Kansas City Art Institute, Alissa researched the unique demographics and discerning manner of the students at the prestigious arts institution, who explore a variety of mediums in their course of study. The resulting color palette not only enhances the craftsmanship of the materials, but also responds to the diverse social, emotional, and mental needs of the students. At the University of Kansas Medical Center Health Education Building, designed in partnership with CO Architects, color brings energy that mimics the interdisciplinary interactions between students at the schools of medicine, nursing, and health professions. Ask any designer, and they would tell you that one of the best parts of the job is seeing people fill the places they've designed with energy and excitement. Helix is proud of our partnership with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and grateful to have cultivated a workplace that's uniquely suited for their employees. NAIC leads by example, which is evident in not just the design of their workplace but also how they used their grand opening as a way to give back to their community.
Same Great Building, New Beautiful Office! On Tuesday, June 4, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) welcomed state insurance regulators, employees, and business partners to the grand opening of its newly renovated central office in Kansas City. Attendees included NAIC President and Connecticut Insurance Department Commissioner Andrew Mais, Most Recent Past President and Missouri Department of Commerce & Insurance Director Chlora Lindley-Myers, and Secretary-Treasurer and Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation (DBR) Director Elizabeth Kelleher Dwyer. NAIC staff are thrilled to work in these stunning new spaces designed by Helix Architecture + Design and constructed by McCownGordon Construction. During the open house, NAIC Officers and employees assembled 306 "Give Lunch" bags, with nonperishable food generously donated by NAIC staff. The bags were donated to Harvesters—The Community Food Network, a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri. This incredible effort was organized by the NAIC's Employee Connections and Community Outreach (ECCO) team. ECCO's mission is to foster connections among employees through shared interests and facilitate support, services, and outreach to charitable organizations via financial contributions and volunteer efforts. It was a fantastic team effort to support the Kansas City community. Together, we make a difference! #CommunityOutreach #GivingBack #KansasCity #VolunteerWork Thank you to everyone who attended the open house, made this transformation possible, and participated in the food drive! https://ow.ly/3UtR50SfTnn
