September is Sepsis Awareness Month. This annual observance offers a critical opportunity for individuals, healthcare professionals and community partners to help save lives by raising awareness of this serious condition. Sepsis, the body’s overwhelming and toxic response to infection, kills over 350,000 adults in the U.S. every year. While sepsis can impact anyone, some groups have a higher risk of contracting this serious infection, including older adults and those with a weakened immune system. Through public education, we can raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of sepsis so people in our communities know when to seek emergency care. Tomorrow is International Overdose Awareness Day. Did you know that Narcan can save lives? Narcan (Naloxone) is a medication often discussed for treatment of overdose with illicit drugs but can be needed for people who are prescribed opioids.
