The Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (LCHD) is an agency that is accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board, the Illinois state Department of Public Health, and the Joint Commission. Our goal as an agency is to continue to push the boundaries of what innovation looks like for a public health department that includes environmental health, health promotion and prevention, population health, behavioral health and primary care clinics. Through our efforts of quality and performance improvement, health equity, and instituting a data driven culture, our hope is that we continue to develop the programs and interventions that improve health outcomes of the residents in Lake County independent of their socioeconomic status.

Congratulations to our Communicable Disease Team for receiving the David Baker Award for Excellence in Integrating Public Health and Infection Control at the Illinois Department of Public Health's Emerging Stronger: 2024 Illinois Infectious Disease Conference. The award is in memory of David Baker, an infection control expert who worked in the IDPH Communicable Disease Section. He was passionate about protecting the most vulnerable Illinois residents, especially veterans.
April 2024 has been proclaimed Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Month in Illinois as they celebrate 50 years of the program in Illinois. The Lake County WIC Program provides nutrition education, health care referrals, breastfeeding support and an EBT card to purchase nutritious supplemental foods at no cost to eligible Lake County residents. Today's National Public Health Week daily theme is "Emergency Preparedness." What does the Emergency Response program do between global pandemics? After the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Operations Center was demobilized, the Emergency Response program has continued to protect the public’s health by responding to other incidents, conducting exercises, and developing our Lake County Medical Reserve Corps. Our staff and volunteers have: • Redistributed hundreds of thousands of unused medical supplies from the COVID-19 response • Participated in a nationwide Medical Reserve Corps audit with the U.S. Government Accountability Office to better understand the role volunteers played during the COVID-19 response • Exercised capabilities related to regional communication and coordination, mass-casualty incidents, chemical decontamination, medical countermeasures dispensing, and behavioral health during a disaster • Responded to physical violence threats, natural disasters, and biological hazards in the Chicagoland area • Volunteered more than 1,000 hours, including the delivery of 22 Stop the Bleed classes to over 750 individuals • Engaged Future Health Professionals (HOSA) clubs at local high schools to perform student outreach, health education, and develop training materials for the Lake County Medical Reserve Corps • Prepared for local elections and the Democratic and Republic National Conventions with partners from the Emergency Management Agency, Sheriff’s Office, County Clerk, and neighboring jurisdictions To read more about Saturday's theme of Emergency Management, visit https://lnkd.in/gx-xEmWd
