At first, this was a change that leaders struggled with. They drifted to more of a performance evaluation conversation versus a development one. My experience is that what you call a conversation, a document, a meeting, or anything else shapes the way it is seen and drives the outcome. Be sure the language used reflects your intent. These are skill-building conversations. There are many benefits to holding regular development conversations with employees. · It helps keep them engaged. · It enables you to catch issues quickly so you can help them course correct. · It helps you get to know them better and builds strong relationships. · It also makes you more likely to identify bright spots you can celebrate.
